when I recently replaced a set of Beyer DT770pro headphones I was pretty dissappointed with their narrow sound stage and, amazingly, lack of bass compared to the dt770's I just returned. I was on the verge of taking these ones back but decided to give them a solid day and a half of "burnin" by playing continuous bass oriented music at about 1 1/2 times my normal listening volume. Much to my delight, after this time I put the cans back on and now I've got head rattling bass and a decent sound stage. I know many people don't believe burn in works but it definately has for me.

Did you do a blind comparison before AND after?

Mike,
I too have been a little sceptical about burning in audio products but I have to say the bass improvement was substantial. From weak to head thumping with the same source, amp and cd's at the same volume level. Powerhouse bass is either there or it aint, its not some subtle audiophile nuance of tune. It orginally wasn't there to the point I was gonna return the headpones and now bass is there in spades. These cans are keepers.

Doesn't really prove anything. Maybe both headphones sounded different to begin with.

Precisely the problem, as I stated. Unless they were blindly compared to start with, no conclusions can be drawn.

Yep that would be excellent. Problem is someones gotta have the ability to get hold of multiple brand new headphones of the same model for the testing.

There is no difference between any audio components.

They all sound the same.

Double blind testing of any hi-fi products will never yield anything better than random chance results.....NOT!
