I picked this up this morning and have been listening to it all day. It's defintely a couple of notches above the average 'tribute" album.
It is the soundtrack for the movie of the same name that has five differennt actors (including Cate Blanchette) playing Dylan at different points in his life.
So far there are some obvious standouts
Cat Power- Stuck inside of mobile- lots of attitude and sass and her voice is a great fit
Jim James and Calexico- Goin' to Acapulco, his voice just soars and elevates the whole song
Sonic Youth- I'm not there- fuzzed out bliss with great words to match
jeff Tweedy- simple twist of fate- a bit more countrified than dylans and he changes the words a bit
Willie Nelson- Senor (tales of yankee power)- an epic western tale, nailed by Willie
John Doe- I dreamed I saw St Augustine- who knew doe could sing so beautifully
One Clunker- Eddie Vedder- All along the watchtower- Sounds more like "keep on rockin in the watchtower"
Anybodye else heard it yet?
