Im not a big fan of the focal range, i find they're over priced for what they "offer". I think you should reconsider thoes headphones, especially if they're your first entry pair.

what would you get? I heard that clear is 90 percent of the utopia for 40 percent of the price .? good value , also is the otg usb interface input not the same as standard laptop USB interface?? topping says USB via otg does not work for my phone for d50s?

The clear is nowhere near the Utopia, im not sure where this rumour has stemmed from.
At a local audio show that came to my city recently, i had almost 2 hours with the focal line from the same source with MY music so i knew what i was testing.
i tried the Utopia, Stellia, Clear, Clear Pro, Elear, Elegia and Listen Pro.
The Clear were not as detailed, open or controlled as the Utopia. that being said, all focal headphones have a focal "signature sound" and maybe thats what people refer to.

I've owned the Fostex TH900mk2, sold them due to comfort issues.
I currently own a pair of BeyerDynamic DT1990 Pro and enjoy them very much. I'll bebuying a pair of Audeze LCD-X this month.

I feel if you want the higher bit rate reading, sure go with USB. but to be fair i think Optical cable is the best to go with, no drivers and it caps generally for most devices at 24/192. which is more than enough for 99.9% of the population.

anytime one quotes this, you are being compromised by not having sufficient budget and or ancillary components to scale properly. Course budget is budget just realize that 90% might actually be 80,70,60 % whatever. Course i don't know focal but i know that spiel

Clear is more bassy than Elear i found.
The Clear was also more detailed than the Elear, i feel the Elear didnt have the same control when it came to treble and bass. the mids were good on both. but the Elear had slightly closed in sounding mids.

Personally, if i had to choose between the two and money was no object, i'd prob get the Clear Pro(I like the look more).

Again, the Clear is an expensive headphone, and I dont think its worth the price its pushing. if you're dead set on it, id suggest looking at a used one for a lot less.
Have you demo'd the Clear? or are you going to buy it based on youtube video reviews or what people say here in the Focal Clear forum thread? (not trying to be rude, just trying to help.)

they don't have a speaker sound. neither does the utopia.
The only things ive heard that comes close to a "Speaker" sound are planars. even electrostatics dont give a speaker sound, they lack that low end that speakers can give.

The Focal line really shines with a balanced signal. You can enjoy them with a D50 and Atom, but you won't really be getting the most out of them. They will sound noticeably clearer and more precise when you upgrade. And it's definitely a can that will push you to look at buying a balanced amp! Just my 2 cents.

Buy what YOU want! No matter what you decide someone will be there to tell why you shouldn't and what THEY would buy instead. If you've done the research, don't let anyone change your mind here. As soon as I read your first post I knew what I'd find below it and I wasn't disappointed.

To be honest, it does come down to what he wants to buy. He should buy whatever he wants, its his money. and at the end of the day its their choice to enjoy or not. I'm just trying to help.
I always tell people to demo a can at a shop before buying. Its risky buying something based on a youtube review or what people here say because they dont have the same music taste/ears as the buyer.
