I'm bored with my MS1's, and I want something different. What to get?

I don't think I like my MS1's. Well... I do like them, but I'm not sure if they're completely suitable seeing as my genre likings have changed a bit. I think they're probably not working to the best of their abilities with the music I listen to. Also, the Head-Fi bug has bitten my and I have been attacked with an undesirable urge to spend money. LOTS OF MONEY!

So, help me spend it.

I am looking for something that has a different sound signature to my MS1's for $200 or less (Either on the FS forums or brand-new). It must be able to be driven out of my GoVibe V6 headphone amp, because I do not really want to buy another one (unless this new amp + headphones come in at under $200). Closed or open, I don't care but I do not want IEM's. The music I listen to varies alot depending on my mood. Lately I've been listening to Electronica/IDM, but I also like Jazz,Blues, some Rock, Folk, Acoustic... Lots of stuff. They must also be fairly comfortable, although I don't mind too much as long as they aren't UNCOMFORTABLE.

Some cans I've been looking at are the Sennheiser HD580/HD650, Audio Technica AD700, Equation-Audio RP21, Beyerdynamic DT990 and the Denon AH-D1000, but anything that can be found under $200 will be good.

So, what do you think I should get?

How can you go wrong with HD 650 although I don't know what they go for used...or 580 would fit the budget but I've never heard them.

From my small collection I say 650 does it all best.

(but I love them all)

Yeah, I would go with either the 650s or the DT990... just out of curiosity what is it that you don't like anymore about your MS1's?

I really like my HD600! They're what I turn to when I don't like my....uh....MS2i.

....guess what I turn to when I don't like my HD600?

Yeah; I admit it...I like 'em both. Just for different kinds of music!

....and sometimes for the SAME kinds of music!

The HD580 or HD600 can be found new or used in your price range, and as good as the HD650 are, and they really are; they may be a problem since Head-Fi tradition states that they are particularly finicky in their amp and source requirements. $ynergy is extremely important to them.

Another vote for the HD580. A superb headphone. I have the HD650 and the HD580, had the DT990, and the HD580 surprises me every single time.
Synergy is important though. The Mini3 is a fantastic little budget amp that gels well with the HD580.

I'm not really sure. I think its the upfrontness. I'd prefer something with a little more soundstage.

Also, the comfort hurts my ears after a while. That, and I also just feel like a change

DT990 or HD650's you say? Well, I don't think the HD650 is within my budget after all. If one came up on the FS forum... But they seem to get snapped up very quickly. The DT990 is JUST over budget, but if its as good as everyone says it might be worth it.

Try Ultrasone for something radically different.

But I'm just quoting others. I personally can't say that I feel much difference between my Ultrasone and Sennheiser.

Yeah, when I was looking for something with better soundstage, I was recommended the AKG 501/601/701 a lot. I ended up going with the HD580 purely because I've had an obsession with it for some time now

x2

I really want a pair of 501s. The HUGE overemphasized soundstage is a welcome change to the grado soundstage

and the 580s are so awesome.

If you have 580s, MS-1s, and 501s. Youre basically covered for all types of music. Go team Mid-Fi!!!

I just purchased some Denon AH-D1000's today. It will be a little while before they show up, but my good buddy warrior05 has great things to say about them. I found a brand new pair for $113.00 shipped. From what I understand that's a pretty good price. Also they're 32ohm, so they're easy to drive. warrior says they're really comfy. He's planning on selling his RP-21's, because he prefers the Denons.

The K601? HD580?

Well, out of them I would prefer the HD580 because they just look... Cool. Not sure what it is, but I'm attracted to them by an invisible force

But the D1000's seem very appetizing... Would they be better than the HD580? What about HD580 vs DT990?

Oh, and what is the cheapest amp that would synergize well with the HD580? Is the K601 finicky about amps too?
