Hi There,

Friend of mine got his iGrado break bigtime, and doesn't like it anyway so he asked me what to get instead. I told him to go MS-1. So he did, but MS-1 is no good for rain and outside use.

He's looking in the same pricerange as iGrado. He already had the px100 and is not wanting to go back. He loves the sq out of the iGrado but hates the way they treat your ears. Open or closed doesn't matter to him, as long as it's not too leaky. Btw he uses an iAudio D2.

Any good suggestions for good comfort+sq phones to go with the D2 around $80?

Thanks!

They hurt the ears because of the squeezing from the way they fit around his ears. I have it too, but only after a few hours of use. He has it right from the start though. They really hurt his ears real horrorshow.

Right. The plastic is rigid stiff. If you have a big head they're just plain awful. Those portapro's, what do compare with sq wise?

Well they are about the same as the Koss 75c which is considered the best sounding inexpensive set. Actually the 75 might be a good choice also since they dont have a headband and are very comfortable clipped over the ar.

why not grado sr 60s? If it's the loop that just bothers him, however there are still plenty of people that complain about grado comfort. There are some mods though that can increase comfort but sacrafice a little SQ. *edit* saw he didn't want too leaky, guess scratch grados off the list.

You just have to give the iGrados time to shape to your head. Try placing them around a couple of books to stretch them out a little. Don't be afraid to bend the plastic either...it's pretty tough. Within a week or two, they will become much more comfortable.

If you're still looking for another headphone with a similar sound, then try the koss portapro.

trim off the pinching edge with a sharp blade, then line the hard plastic neckband with soft velvet. Should work pretty good, here is mine.

I might ratchet it up to the sr60s. They are durable and since the "lay down" they are portable. I will say this though; as much as I like Grado's sound and warmth, whether at the iGrado level up to the RS1s, they are not exactly built for comfort I'm convinced. I like Grado, but John Grado must have a seriously high pain threshold, because all models wear you out after a while.

Agreed on the comfort level of the Grado's. I even contacted the company, and they said they don't have a solution to why they are uncomfortable (this was a few years ago, though).

They should make all of their employees wear a pair for 8 hours and see what happens...
