iFi: NOS6922 Valve/Tube upgrade set (new product announcement!)
Jul 19, 2016 at 8:56 AM Post #31 of 81

Hi,

We checked and Music Direct and Adorama have the NOS6922 in stock.

The others are smaller dealers and they may be on their summer holidays. Though any you find that dont reply, drop us or our iFI USA office a line and we'll look into it.

Cheers.

Sorta funny, one dealer said there is no such thing. When I then gave him this link: http://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/accessory-nos-6922-2/ he said oh, it's just an adapter, not the tubes themselves. I guess some dealers are sorta clueless.

All, is there anyone that owns the NOS6922 that can tell me the diameter of the adapter? I'm not kidding...

~ 23mm in diameter.

I received these today and the hype is real. :)  These sound really nice for the price. Seems like iFi knows what they're doing.

They're probably not fully burned in yet but so far, they're less dark than my Amperex Orange Globes and seem to resolve all the details a bit better, without being at all

Thank you very much Mediahound.
I wanted to know if the adapter fits the opening in my Vali2 before deciding to buy.
And also thank you for your comment, as I am really curious to test those on my small amp.
Best regards
Fab

Saw your post on the Lyr rolling thread, and have a couple questions.  Mainly I'm curious about removing these from the Lyr, given the tube isn't supposed to be separated from the adapter.  I've got the Tubemonger socket savers in my Lyr, so that makes rolling easier, but obviously one must grip the tube in order to remove it from the Lyr.  Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.  I'm about to pull the trigger, but any chance of the tube separating from the adapter (and being stuck in the saver) would be a deal breaker.

Thanks!

I use the Tubemonger socket savers too. With those, these iFi tube adapters stick out above the amp enough that you should be able to grab them, especially with one of these tube puller tools: http://www.ebay.com/itm/112039803277

The other thing is that iFi has stated the two do not really come apart at all easily and does not recommend trying. So, even if you just grab the tube, I think the adapter part will go with it.

Thanks for quick reply.  That's what I was hoping to hear

  Trigger pulled.

For anyone in the US thinking about these, Music Direct has a good price and free shipping, but only in the US.

I'll be interested to know your impressions of them.

I've been really enjoying these a lot so far, great detail retrieval and dynamics in my Mjolnir 2.  Now I'm wondering how they work.

The specs are not the same for the 6922 and 5670 tubes. That'ss not to say that one cant plop in a 5670 into a circuit designed for a 6922 with a pin-out adapter, and the 5670 would not get harmed because its usual operating points (plate voltage and plate current) are such that there should be no danger of damage. The only parameter that is of very minor concern is the 5670's  15% higher Heater Current consumption. (350mA vs 300mA).

I have a feeling that there is something more than just a noise suppression capacitor in the iFi adapter, because to operate the 5760 at the 6922's plate voltage of around 100V (normally 150 V for the 5670) they would be affecting the 5670's prescribed bias current.

Hi,

Please scroll to the bottom and read the pdf from Vacuum Tube Alley.

Simple answer is:

6922 = Ford

2C51 = BMW

(no offence to Ford car owners intended, we have Ford and BMW owners here at AMR/iFi)

Cheers.

That doesn't seem to answer the question. It only basically states the 2C51/5670W is better, but not how they're technically compatible/adaptable to the 6922.

Hi,

The 2C51 is the premium version of the 6922. So same basic design. However the pin outs are different.

Cheers.

Question: could I experience the same sound by purchasing a 5670-6922 adapter and a pair of NOS GE5670 tubes? Does the ifi adapter offer something that a boutique adapter doesn't?

Hi,

http://ifi-audio.com/portfolio-view/accessory-nos-6922-2/

The differences are laid out here - so leave you to compare and contrast!

Cheers

The site doesnt specify which year etc but with in the 5670 family I am sure there may be better or worse depending on ones tastes. You could by the adapter and experiment and even find a Holy grail.

They are not available for purchase yet though on musicdirect. You have to wait 4-6weeks or else I would have bought a pair to try in my head 2
