iFi micro iDSD Black-Label - In-Depth Review

Just acquired this wonderful little thing:) Been experimenting the last few days. By it self = excellent. In pre-amp mode sending it through my Graham Slee Solo ULDE: it gives a bit more than the BL itself. The Xbass certainly adds something to it. Now I'm preparing for holidays and am thinking to bring my ZX2 along - so testing this combo. Have the special Sony cable for digital output. However, whatever I play (DSD, FLAC etc.) on the ZX2, the LED on the BL seems green/yellow (difficult for me to tell the difference). Does anybody have an explanation for this. I suppose it is a Sony thing?
If your talking about the Micro BL then that's normal, MQA support came out after it's intial release, the Nano BL should change to magenta (purple?) when streaming MQA..no wait your asking about FLAC files.. you know I'm thinking if your on the latest firmware that it's just always gonna be yellow anything 192 and above.

Does this thing ever get below $599 on Amazon? Also, no USB-C? You have to use a dongle?
Yeah, it's ancient by today's standards, but an excellent amp. very close to as smooth as an OTL amp. Without the distortion. Had mine for over 5 years (was it 5 years?) and still rockn it.

Thanks for replying: I have the latest FW vs. 5.3c. When I listen to Roon or Tidal, I get the purple signal for MQA, so that's fine. Don't see the yellow though... However, connecting to the ZX2, everything played seems to be "green"

Help please!

I have just bought an iFi Audio Micro iDSD Black Label. It works fine with my ZMF Eikons and a laptop. However, I cannot get things working with my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone. I have installed the USB Audio Player Pro app on the Galaxy S9. However, when I plug the phone into the iFi unit, the phone fails to recognise an external DAC and just plays music through the phone itself.

Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Many thanks,
Nick

FWIW: just have to express again how happy I am with the BL. As tidal stopped working on my zx2, I was seriously considering buying a new dap, e.g Sony 507. Lots of recommendations saying that one should buy the Japanese version to avoid the volume cap on the eu models. So what to do? For some reason I stumbled over the BL, got a good offer and pulled the trigger. Now after one week,I couldn’t be happier. Works absolutely perfect with Tidal on my iphone or iPad incl. MQA. I bring it to work, where it connects with my windows PC. Even it home, I have used it as DAC for my graham slee solo ulde amp, and compared with my pro-ject pre box s2 digital, it adds more authority.... yes,it may be a little more tedious to carry along, but totally worth it....

Yes, micro iDSD BL is more transportable than portable, but for its size it does, well... you already know what it does :beerchug:

And thanks for your feedback!

Please see if anything changes if you power on our iDSD BL before and after connecting to your smartphone. If nothing happens (and it might not), can you please open up a ticket here: https://support.ifi-audio.com

... so our tech staff can help you there?
