iFi audio's worst kept secret: the hip-dac!

Found the answer.

On a Samsung device it is not sufficient to exempt the app from being put to sleep. In addition to adding it to the list of never sleeping apps under battery settings, you also need to go the Apps and select the individual app (So Tidal, and USB Audio Player Pro in my case) and tap on battery, then change from Optimised to unrestricted.

Both changes are needed.
That's very useful, thanks! :beerchug:

Had the hipdac2 for a couple of weeks now and really enjoying it with my 700 pro x and ahd 2000 ,almost like audio chocolate ,separation and bass, texture and power, detailed but lush.
Using with foobar 2000 and wasapi drivers and that's working really well ,been messing with the meier crossfeed setting and different hi res files.
My next task is to get some hi res streaming sorted out, thinking tidal at the moment.

Not a fan of tidal, they notification me of what's new in pop and rap. While never ever having listened anything of that sort of content. And the UI sucks.

Well I had an Amazon trial but I don't think I was getting bit perfect to my hipdac2 ,the UI was ok though I definitely want to use with win 10 and Android so need something with a good app ,Apple music ? not sure but I will do some more research it will be mostly on my laptop with the phone now and again

I am not sure if this paragraph is still relevant, stroke up to date, my only worry being 3rd party licencing for offline android viewing ?

According to Oficina da Net reader Adrian Borges, in the case of Tidal, it is now possible to access the DAC exclusively via a USB OTG (On-The-Go) cable on Android, without the need to use third-party apps. However, in the case of Qobuz, the version for Google’s mobile operating system is still not able to do the same, requiring an extra application.

Edit / finding the sound very addictive have very little hi res but I've been re ripping my old cds to flac, amazing what it does with Bruce Springsteen's voice (recent 50p Wadebridge charity shop purchase) Shostakovich symphony also sounding sublime, the 700 pro x go amazingly well and rarely need that bass boost

Ok so I love the sound of my hip dac and it works perfectly while connected to my pc, but when connected to android I keep having issues.

It will work for a little bit, but then it will randomly disconnect. A message will appear on the screen telling me the device isn’t supported and I’ll have to unplug and plug the hip dac back in. I’ve tried the provided otg cable as well as aftermarket ones and the issue persists.

Ifi is telling me the problem is my phone and not the device, but I have an ibasso dc05 and it never has a problem with disconnecting.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Question... On the old hipdac when using the latest 2021 xmos firmware, Does it indicate in anyway that it is charging? The one I have doesn't show any activity. It could be full but I was just using it for a while with the pc

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm blind lol

Hey Folks...

Check out the review of the hip-dac 2 this May by Ste Knight of Make Use Of.

"“Capable of powering even the most demanding of wired headphones, the hip-dac2 makes the perfect portable partner for any audiophile looking to take their hi-resolution audio on the go with them. At only $189, you’re unlikely to find a better portable DAC/amp on the market right now.”

Cheers!!
