I've developed an issue with my xDSD ,it won't pair via Bluetooth anymore.

When in BT mode,it boots normally and shows the blue circle LED on the rotary dial but then the input light is a solid blue and isn't detected by my usual paired device . Things I've tried

Rebooting the unit

Booting into cabled mode, turning it off then booting into Bluetooth mode .

While in Bluetooth mode turning the volume dial all the way down so there's no color according to the FAQ this should make it blind red/blue to pair , but the input light stays blue no matter how long I leave it there .

Removed the pairing memory from my normal device (Samsung s10+)

Turned off my s10+ to see if I can get the xDSD to go into pairing ,no luck.

Ive also tried all of the above steps with my s10+ powered off and no other devices nearby.

Ill raise a support ticket but unfortunately I have a two hour dentist appointment tomorrow and I'd hopefully like to have it working for that

Ill try flash firmware when I'm home from work

Fixed it by booting into Line Output mode, powered off and powered on back into BT mode without line out. this made the input light start flashing red/blue, and I was able to setup a new Bluetooth sync pairing with my phone

IMPORTANT NOTE to anyone reading this :: Its important to ensure you get out of Line Output mode, as mentioned in the user guide this CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO HEADPHONES / HEARING

inserted as damage to product/hearing may ensue. As the xDSD

retains the last mode on next power on, it will revert back to Line

Output mode if that was the last mode used.

Yes. The iFi support did come back to me on the support ticket and basically charging is only possible with the supplied cable (USB Type-A => USB C), but not with a standard USB Type-C cable (e.g. a true USB Type-C (PD) to Type-C (PD) cable). They are looking into changing the hardware. Interestingly I found another product with the exact same issue: Harman Kardon Esquire Mini 2 BT speaker. That also comes with a Type-C connector and a charging cable from USB Type-A => USB-C. This device also can't be charged using a true Type-C (PD) cable. However, with the iFi or the HK cable you can charge the other device, so with the iFi cable the HK speaker and the other way around. So I'm waiting for the new hardware revision as there is no point for me to carry along a special cable for charging when I anyways have already a Type-C (PD) cable on trips.

For me, that misses the point of using a Type-C connector on the iFi and HK devices as you only get the reversible mating interface, yet for Micro-USB there was anyways only one way to plug it in. Well, it may have required a close look, yet the real benefit is to be able to use any Type-C (PD) cable and hence carry less around.

Good to know they've isolated the issue though.

The Raspberry Pi 4 launch recently made news regarding a USB-C issue with certain cables too and they are doing a hardware revision also.

Is it possible if xDSD is going to be for a long time in a desktop system in line out mode, to remove the battery in order not to ware it out?

Of course the best option would be to buy a desktop machine with no battery, but the one in your xDSD will be fine. We'd leave it in its place, the product wasn't designed to run without it.

Yes of course a desktop machine with no battery is better for sure.
The xDSD was bought for portable use but there are times that I am away from home for some time and I use it as a main dac in a small system!
In that case I was wondering if removing the battery would be an option.

It would be nice to have a sibling of the xDSD but just with a pure DAC function to pair it with the xCAN.

You out he xDSD in line out mode, and it bypasses the amp, so you are getting pure DAC function.

Yes, I know but what if I don't need the amplification part of the xDSD...I use the xCAN in balanced mode with it which amplification part is superior.

Let's say It could cost 100 USD less.

I understand that it should be a real business case for ifi audio. So this is just a wish. Anyway, I'm happy with the current combo of xDSD + xCAN running fully balanced.

@iFi unfortunately when having the device plugged in charging and playing, there is a buzz. It doesn’t stop even when the dac gets signal and plays music!
