Before I bite the bullet on a (probably) very expensive (non iFi) bespoke OTG cable for my iDSD BL / AK70Mkii, and feeling like a bit player on the Ground Hog Day Movie Set, I'll ask again (as others have) - when will this OTG be available to buy?, I did send iFi an email this morning asking the same question, but they seem to be staying schtum on the matter as they've not replied

@iFi audio - I have to force forget the paired device and re-pair bluetooth each time I change from usb input to bluetooth with my Apple Macbook Air - otherwise no sound comes out through bluetooth. It's a bit of a hassle to do this each time - is this something that you can repair with firmware or is it hardware problem? I think I also got the same behaviour on my Android device

It's highly likely this has more to do with your smartphone than our BT receiver and its FW. Please shoot us a PM here: http://support.ifi-audio.com

...and we'll try to sort you out there.

Thanks!

Very soon is the firm answer. When exactly this might happen, we'll ask at our HQ on Monday.

Making noise on a forum wont speed up the processes required to develop, test and manufacture a product.

You don't order branded retail packaging until After all development and testing have been completed. You order branded retail packaging to coincide with the manufacturing line, so you've a box to drop each item into as they roll of the conveyor belt hth

You want one sure way to bring improvements to the XDSD? Plug it into micro iUSB - the upgrades are about 20-40% improvement depending on how resolving your headphones are.

What do I hear?

* More bass - deeper, tighter, and warmer.
* Less digital glare and grain, smoother.. I find myself playing my music much louder without fatigue.
* Quieter sections are more quiet, louder parts are louder - everything is more dynamic (could be related to previous point)
* Wider, more 3d soundstage - this is one obvious improvement,
* Treble is extended, but sounds purer - the extension is there as before but less fatiguing.

Overall, quite a massive improvement, certainly it's warmer and much less digital, it sounds like a serious piece of desktop kit. There are just my initial findings that I wanted to share. Can't wait to try it with my m2tech hiface 2 spdif interface and see if I get even more improvement

I must tell you that I am addicted to the sound of this unit. It produces ear candy. The clarity, smoothness, and detail of sound coming through the xDSD is really something to behold. I don't know how better to explain it. All I can tell you is that if you love your music, you must give this one a try. The only negative I can possibly note is that the stylish, shiny aluminum body leads to fingerprints getting on the unit. But you don't hear the fingerprints - just a deliciously pleasing sound. So wipe the fingerprints off and enjoy. I can't give details on the portability of the xDSD since I only use it as a dedicated DAC/amp through my 2015 Mac Book Pro using USB. To do this, you need to keep the battery fully charged and plugged into an external outlet as the USB only connects to the computer for sound. Charging and powering requires a mini USB cable which was not included with the one I received. Otherwise, plug and play heaven. Really Sweet!

My Amazon review. 5 stars

This is a question for @iFi audio. What is the load impedance that the xdsd can drive in the line output mode? Likewise, what is the output impedance of the xdsd in line output mode?

The output stage is the same as headphone mode, what is bypassed are intermediate stages including volume control, volume control buffer / gain and 3D/X-Bass.

So output voltage is 2.1V fixed from appx. 1 ohm source impedance.

Just got the xdsd and it is working great with my CA Cascades.
I also tried plugging my HD 650s into it and it powers them pretty decent actually(although the 650s definitely benifit from a desktop amp that can push out atleast a max of 1 watt.

I see there is no gain switch on the xdsd and I read it can somehow sense the headphones impedance automatically.

Since the cascades are about 35ohms and pretty easy to drive but without turning off the unit I plugged in the 650 at 300ohm and less sensitivity.
I’m curious if it takes the xdsd a couple seconds to adjust to the harder to drive headphones or if I need to shut off the unit

No, this is not how it works.

Instead once the volume control is set above a certain point, the xDSD automatically adjusts the gain switch to provide more output.
