Please share your xDSD ride with us!
Folks, you might wanna check out our official xDSD tour page. It just started and yes, there are prizes!
I want to write something a bit longer but yeah, it's brewing.
xDSD – Premium. Pocket-portable. Perfection.
We are buzzed about the xDSD and our customers will be too. The xDSD is a ultra portable solution for everyday music lovers and high-end connoisseurs alike, and the wild child of the flagship Pro iDSD and high-end micro iDSD Black Label.
The xDSD shines both inside and out – from its AAC/aptX Bluetooth connectivity to its luxurious magnesium-alloy construction. From Spotify to MQA/DSD512, everyone will enjoy rediscovering their favorite playlists.
NeXt Gen Premium Portable Audio
So, what is the xDSD? It is an ultra-portable product designed to be used with headphones/IEMs/CIEMs and mobile digital sources such as smartphones and DAPs as well as stationary devices like computers, TVs and game consoles.
The xDSD can be operated either in wireless or wired mode via aptX/AAC Bluetooth (wireless) or USB and S/PDIF inputs (wired). It supports high-resolution formats (MQA and DSD) and includes the iFi S-Balanced 3.5mm TRRS headphone circuit, which delivers 500mW of power per chachannel. In short, the xDSD is a major game-changer for portable high-fidelity.
Part 1 – The Guided Tour
Hi-Res Wireless On-The-Go
High-quality wireless is a major tool in its armoury. With Bluetooth, the xDSD can be wirelessly paired with smartphones or DAPs, so there’s no longer any need to stack several units together.
Picture this: Your xDSD stays in your pocket driving your headphones whilst the phone is in your hand, texting or browsing the web.
This ease of use transforms the user experience both on-the-go and at home.
When you first set your eyes on the xDSD, it is instantly obvious that it does not resemble any other portable audio product on the market.
The xDSD exudes luxury and style. The enclosure is tactile, compact and made of rugged, ridged magnesium-aluminium alloy. The moulded plastic means unrestricted BT transmission.
All the switches and connections previously seen on iFi products have been optimised to match the new chassis, yet they still provide easy access to all the xDSD’s standout features. This product is a stunning object in its own right with its visuals and user interface merely part of a far grander design.
At the front of the machine, from left to right:
- the 3.5mm input.
- LEDs for kHz and input
- Centre rotary for on/off, volume control (mute) and input selection
- LEDs for 3D+ and XBass+ (user-selectable)
- Settings button
At the rear:
- S/PDIF input (for DAPs)
- USB type ‘A’ male (perfect for CCK/OTG)
- Listen/Measure filter switch
- Micro USB charging port (with status LED)
Stay tuned, there's more!
Ok. I just got mine today. Wooohoo.
I have quite a few ifi products. iDSD micro and nano, iOne and iUSB, iem-match and now the xDSD. I guess I am a fan.
I used my iPhone wired and wireless and the sound quality is really good. But for now I shall use the xDSD with the Pioneer XDP30R as transport. It can output DSD via usb. And it fits perfect. Sorry for the rubber bands. Was a quick and dirty version for now.
Got mine today too.trying out Bluetooth with my LGV20 streaming Tidal HIFI.
Can't wait for my Hiby R3 to show up as it will be a great pairing.
I love iFi products and I’m thinking about adding this amp to my collection to keep in my work bag. It looks to be more portable than my Micro iDSD BL, which is amazing, but to me it’s more transportable. I’m looking forward to reading more sound impressions.
How do I plug in my headphone? I think you mean 3.5mm output.
Since I only listened for two hours so far - I would describe the sound preliminary with:
- fluid and liquid
- detailed (but not analytical)
- totally engaging
For me it has the same quality in reproduction as the mojo. Creating something that is incredibly fluid and engaging, coherent and just “right”. For now I can’t describe it any better other than it just feels “right” when you listen to your favorite tracks.
Listening was done with no effects and in “listen” mode via BT and USB
is there a matte version or are both fingerprint magnets?
Hi. AFAIK it’s only one version and it’s a bit of a fingerprint magnet.
Thanks, sounds like my kind of amp. I had the Mojo and loved it’s form factor but it didn’t get along with all of my headphones unlike my iDSD BL. Plus, I absolutely love iFi’s implementation of XBass+ and 3D+. I for one think as good as the Mojo is on its own I wished it had these enhancements. This sounds like a smaller version of iDSD BL which makes it go to the top of my want list.
How does it compare sound wise against DAPs like the DX200, QP1R and X7ii?
