Hmmm...I get too excited and don't make much sense sometimes. What I meant to say is I've auditioned the iDSD for 4-5 hours, BUT I haven't had the chance to hook up the one I just purchased to my own gear and play with the filter settings with different amps, etc. Whew...ok, I think that makes sense now, right? Who knows...it's still early and I haven't finished my coffee yet. :)

I’d like to hear your verdict once you compared Vega and idsd.

And I'll gladly give it. You've given me a lot of settings to tinker with. :)

Anyone using a linear power supply with Pro iDSD? I just read a review of Pro iDSD on Computeraudiophile, and the reviewer claims that a high end LPS makes a huge difference in sound. CA is usually heavy on digital noise and clean power, so I’m not surprised. I’m not discounting it either, but I’m just wondiner if anyone else has had similar experience. I understand the power supply for the Pro iDSD is already pretty good.

Ifi, can you provide some info on how to upgrade the tubes? Thanks.

First, opening your iDSD Pro voids warranty.

Second, the tubes are NOS General Electric, some of the best available, we only consider the insanely expensive WE 396A and equally or even more expensive Bendix 6385 as superior.

Third, the tubes can only be replaced by 2C51/5670/6385/396A/CV2831, manufacturer choices are very limited (GE, WE, Tung Sol, Bendix).

Fourth, the tubes are in normal tube sockets, but the contacts are high tension and changing tubes can be a little tricky.

If knowing all this you still want to go ahead, please ask our support team (via our support system) for details how to open the iDSD Pro.

B5DFE149-2423-4A60-9B32-763A962DD743.jpeg So I sold my pro idsd. I got quite annoyed by the style of communication by ifi, I see no empathy or customer care. Shamelessly printing MQA on the box, promising to deliver this “soon” for months now, and laughing off questions about it with “just wait” type of answers. Also, I found that the tube and tube+ modes add lots of hiss and distortion. If upsampling / filters are not engaged, lots of hiss is audible. And the headphone amp has such a low output that I can only assume this is on purpose to make buyers add the pro ican. Even the micro idsd has more output and can drive headphones better. Why’s that? And reading above “first.. second...third... fourth...” teacher style just made me post this frustration.

So you are saying I should go ahead and change it myself.

I think that’s exactly what he’s saying: It’s not possible, as the way the tubes are fixed will not allow this easily. And, by the way we’ll go ahead and void your warranty if you try and fail. But, we’re happy to show you how to open the dac, then you’re out of warranty if you follow our guidance on how to open it, and we can then tell you “told you so” when all lights go off.

Sorry to see you go. It's really a great DAC. Even though I personally don't care for MQA. I understand your frustrations. If MQA is advertised as a function, it should've been implemented upon release.

Sorry you went through all of this. I’ve been watching this thread for a while. Fortunately, it’s kept me from buying the Pro iDSD. The reason it was on my shortlist was it’s list of features, with MQA being the main one. Also, many reviews tout the list of features as the key selling point, and not because it does anything very well. Its really bad when a company over-promises and under-delivers. If it’s printed on the box, the feature should be available. IFi should offer anyone a full refund who wants it at this point.

What DAC are you switching to?
