I'm an old fart from the old school. It means (1) that I used a CD player until I replaced if by the iFi thing, and (2) that I have a large ripped CD library, so I haven't felt the need to use a streaming service so far, and I can't answer to your questions about Tidal and Quobuz.

There is a free version of Neutron, if you want to give it a try. I don't remember what its limitations are.

The Gamut amplifiers are fantastic, indeed. They're also beyond my price range, but I was lucky enough to get mint demo units for half the price. And yes, regarding loudspeakers (and DACs) Britain rules. Don't hard Brexit, it would be costly for music lovers. :deadhorse:

My brother and father have both ripped their CDs to flac. My father uses a NAS and a Naim streamer, my brother a custom PC and USB DAC. Neither solution sounds as good to me as spinning discs on my Marantz SA-11, and vinyl can sound even better (down hill with the wind behind it), so I will be keeping my CDs, SACDs and LPs for now. Wish I hang on to my EU citizenship too.

One of the other issues with the Pro iDSD when used in a traditional Hi-Fi system, is that it only has one socket for toslink and RCA S/PDIF, that is why I am looking at streamers with USB outputs.

I think that this is really a desktop audio device, even though it has been reviewed in most of the old school hifi mags. I think iFi should have been a bit less ambitious in their marketing and feature count, Pro iDSD tries to please all of the people all of the time, and inevitably fails.

Soundwise, it's far above my former CD player, from every point of view, though. (When you change a main component in your system, you often have to make lots of adjustments beyond it (room acoustics, cables...)) Would they listen to their customers, their next "streaming DAC" could be the perfect "swiss knife" this one pretended to be. But... I'm afraid they're a bit hard of hearing, sometimes. Headphones, you know... :L3000:

Many audiophiles recommend switching on DAC all the time so that the ICs are always on burn-in condition. Considering Pro iDSD has tubes inside, is it safe running 7/24?

Yes, it is safe. Of course tubes inside of the product have limited life span, but in Pro iDSD can withstand a lot for a long time.

Thanks for the info. May I know what is the estimated life span for the tubes if switching on the Pro iDSD 7/24?

I have been experiencing a problem with my Pro iDSD. When I am using my record player I get crackling noises, especially when I touch the tonearm. The noise only happens when the DAC is switched on. The noise reduces when the DAC’s power supply is plugged into a mains socket away from the one that the rest of my system runs off.
iFi support have been trying to help since before Christmas, but so far without success. Has anyone else on this thread had a similar issue, or any idea what the cause might be?

If you haven't already, can you please let our support know about your issue?
