Well, my Nano appears to be dead mysteriously, no audio output at all from it

EDIT: I was on the GTO Filter FW, changed FW to the MQA 5.3 and it's working now

Still having the issue of clicks/pops while watching YT videos and using the Nano but oh well, seems that will never be fixed

Wondering which iFi product comes close to or exceeds Mojo for portable use.

So many opinions on this subject :)

As a company rep I can't name anything specific, but please be prepared for at least two our devices mentioned :)

Does anyone have a recommendation of an older smartphone with a micro SD slot ($100-200) that works well with the iFi Nano BL and UAPP? Thanks!

I'm no smartphone expert, but I'd get the latest gen Android device with microSD card slot I could afford, probably one of Samsung's or Xiaomi's.

Anyone have experience using balanced 3.5mm cables and can hear a clear difference from the Nano BL? Does it improve the sound quality?

Its S-Balanced circuit is of low-noise and less distortion when used with headphones and IEMs fitted with balanced wiring, so you should be able to hear it. Many of our customers did, especially with highly sensitive IEMs.

Using a pair of Sennheiser HD-6XX's with my Nano BL (not the greatest combo as the Senns need a bit more power than the Nano provides) I've just compare the same three songs in Tidal MQA between the stock Senn 3.5 mm cable and my pretty good Chinese 3.5 mm balanced cable and I think I can hear mild increase in clarity with the balanced cable. Not sure I could choose which cable I was listening to in a blind test though. I'd say if you're really interested, get a 3.5 mm balanced cable but don't spend too much. I just leave mine installed with my 6XX's as most everything I plug into can handle the TRRS plug and why not at least think you're maxing the sound quality? Like the iFi Audio rep said previously, if you're talking a nice pair of sensitive IEMs with a high quality 3.5 balanced cable, one is much more likely to hear a definitive improvement.

Thanks for responding. I know S-Balance does a good job cleaning up SE wiring but wondered if there was an improvement on balanced. It's a great little package. Looking to expand and get the Zen Dac for desktop next. I have the Meze 99's and it makes an excellent combo.

Thanks for letting me know your impression. I have the Meze 99s and ordered the 2.5mm balanced silver cable and a 2.5mm balanced to 3.5mm balanced adapter to try it out. The bass on the 99s is a little bloomy so I'm hoping the silver cable will tighten it up. Those adapters are hard to find, luckily I found a decent looking one on Amazon to go with the cables. I'll let you guys know how it sounds when I demo it.

I also have a pretty nice quality 2.5mm balanced to 3.5mm balanced adapter that I use with my HE-4XX with its 2.5mm balanced cable, and I think I also get a discernible improvement (about the equivalent of my 6XX 3.5mm balanced cable) over the standard 3.5 mmTRS cable with the Nano BL.

Well, it's called "SE-compatible Balanced", not "SE pretending to be balanced" :p It is definitely a balanced circuit, and as such benefits from an actual balanced connection just as much as your next-door balanced amplifier does--with the exception of not automatically coming out with 6dB higher gain (big cause of imagined audio gains) and xdB higher noise floor (I'll let that speak for itself) :p
