To Leeroy Jenkins or not to? That is the question…

Let me first introduce you to one legandary (and a bit nerdy) World of Warcraft video...

If you'd like to know what this has to do with audio, please take a look at our latest blog entry HERE

Received my iPower X. Unfortunately, I can't really hear a difference between this and the original. If I *had* to guess, the main thing that I *think* is improved is the tonality of my DAC; richer and deeper, and the volume is a BIT louder. The tonality are VERY slight differences that may or may not be there. Other than that...I can't tell a difference. Definitely no changes to soundstage, etc. The Furman is probably already doing a ton of the legwork.

I figured it would be hard to differentiate 1uV ripple VS 1uV ripple :D

@iFi audio I have your Ifi Iphono 2 pre amp would this new power supply benefit its performance ? if so how?

Apologies for late reply, your post skipped me!

To address your question, we got quite a lot of positive feedback about our iPowers with iPhono over years, so the odds of hearing improvement over a regular PSU are good, but this topic is also system specific, or rather how noisy its power line is. iPower X is even quieter than the original iPower and it has its circuit optimized further.

It may not be quieter, but it's prettier :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
While I haven't tested new iPower yet, honestly speaking the main (if not only) advantage over previous iPower generation is smaller (slimmer) so I can have all 3 connected with single power line. The design is a lot better too, old one is boring but my perspective is that PSU should be kept out of sight anyway.

I hear you, but we did lights due to their informational purpose.

So the only proof to your claim that new version is quieter is a fancy marketing graph: https://i.ibb.co/M8cWVJS/5.jpg ?

When ppl called on your old version measurements you came up with a long PDF and proper measurements: https://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/iPOWER-Much-Ado-About-Nothing.pdf

Both old and new version carry the exact same 0.1uV spec so why did you just say that "iPower X is even quieter than the original iPower"? Can you personally hear any difference?

Any chance of actual measurements to prove this claim please?

Maybe your right, and it's more of an update than an upgrade, but as far as I know, there aren't really any power supplies on the market that are quieter than the original iPower - maybe there is a brick wall you hit when you go down to 1uV noise-level that makes it hard to go even lower than that.

I'm just surprised to read a clear official statement that new version is quieter solely based on a marketing graph when 1uV spec remains unchanged.

Some say that the lights are darn annoying at night, I already got 2x AC iPurifiers right under the TV and indeed lights are a real pain.
In defence of the iPower X, I got to say that the light source is recessed, which means from an angle you hardly recognize it's shine unless you focus on it. It's for sure the most beautiful wall wart there is :deadhorse:

Yes, that's ours!

If our R&D has something to share, I'll post it in this thread.

Yup, turned out nicely!
