iFi audio iPower X - The Official Thread

2. considering that iPower has been included in micro range for sometime already, do you specifically thought about any particular devices like iUSB 3 or iTube 2 for example?

We always think about new stuff and work on several things at the same time. Sadly, I can't give you any specifics about what's exactly in the pipeline. Once we're ready, we announce any new products here first!

@iFi audio can you say something about the expected reliability of the new iPower X and if the devices powered with it are safe from taking any harm in case of a malfunctioning iPower X?

Several years is the average life cycle, of course assuming that the product is used as intended. And yes, all our power supply items are designed to not toast anything :L3000:

Anyway, in my humble opinion ifi made a new version mostly to increase its reliability

It was done to actually be better than previous iPowers in every way.

I guess the proof will be in the proverbial pudding.

It usually is!

I guess I got myself some pretty old NOS then, my newest 1.6 9V is 1 month old for that matter. Oh well, will most likely get the new one soon ^^

All my iPowers 9V are v1.6 too. They came from different sources (including different countries). I have never seen v2 too.

So far - since all my IPowers are working - I do not see any reason to upgrade other than the new IPower takes so much less space so you can fit 3 in a row without any problems.

Leaving that 9V iPower plugged in 24/7 might have been my problem.

While IPower manual is not available on iFi web page (coming soon) and I've got all IPowers included with their devices (@iFi audio this was great move guys BTW!) so I can not check if official docs says anything prohibiting such use, I highly doubt that leaving power supply powered for 24/7 would cause any problems, especially when they designed for desktop use devices.

Coming back to my previous post... I felt something is wrong and... I did quick recheck: all my (including one for iTube2) iPowers have v1.7 sticker under exchangeable power plug but on the normally visible black/gold sticker on the back of unit there is 1.6 version.

Can't see any rev number on sticker under swappable prongs, just "iPower 5V Unit <barcode> serial#"

This is how all mine look like - no matter what specs they are:

I'm tempted, but think I'll hold off till they're on sale. I'm willing to bet with all the tweaks I've made to my old ipower, it's already way quieter.

I've actually taken a couple ipowers apart and modded them extensively... noticed many visible and audible changes/improvements between newer and older manuctures, even though the rev. # was the same. Different IC's, caps, longer AC contacts, thicker solder joints, etc.
