... ... ...

The retail price of the AC iPurifier is US$99 (ex-tax) or €109 /£99 (incl. tax).

Next in line are AC iPurifier technical notes, hence stay tuned!

Dear iFi Audio,
I've searched around your European distributor and I can't find one that have the AC iPurifier listed at the price you recommend (€109 incl. tax).
They all have it listed at €129.
Did you change the retail price or they are speculating on it?

AC iPurifier
Part 5/5: Not just a pretty case.

Not only does the AC iPurifier carry out exceptional noise filtration, it also has several other features to go that extra mile:
  1. Smart Diagnostics of Polarity – with both versions, EU and USA, it is possible to connect in the opposite polarity. The AC iPurifier detects a change and indicates this.
  2. Smart Diagnostics of Earth – detects if the audio mains system it is inserted into has a Ground/Earth or not.
  3. Intelligent Ground – by attaching the optional ground cable, it is possible to give any system an audio ground. Going directly to the AC iPurifier and into the mains, the Ground/Earth will be of the highest quality connection, making it the most effective at draining system noise.
  4. Overvoltage Protection System means that electrical shorts, lightning strikes and surges in the mains will be detected and the AC iPurifier will clamp the voltage to safe levels to protect your AV components from damage.
To summarise:
  • The AC iPurifier is no ordinary mains filter.
  • Firstly, and most importantly, it purges the audio system mains of noise using both Active and Passive technologies to work across a wide frequency spectrum.
  • Secondly, it provides an intelligent Ground/Earth to reduce noise for cases of a “missing earth” causing problems with noise.
  • Thirdly, it checks and detects the local mains for Earth and Polarity anomalies.
  • There is simply no other mains power improvement accessory like it.

I have been using Shunyata Defenders in my set up for a couple years now (looks like a very similar if not “knock off” product). I feel like they do add benefit and lower noise. More importantly these devices do act as kind of a “circuit breaker” to the plug and line they’re plugged into also. So for me, I do have a very large Furman IT 20 power conditioner and surge protector for the majority of my gear, however my power amps (mono blocks) and my two subwoofers are all plugged directly into the wall (each it’s own outlet and each mono block has its own dedicated line and the subwoofers have their own dedicated line too (for the pair / two outlets / one line). So in my case, adding one of these (the Shunyata version) to the second outlet “in” for each subwoofer and each amplifier, allows me to have them all plugged directly into the wall for max power draw, but also gives them protection to surges and also some noise filtering too. As I understand it, these types of devices increase in performance incrementally, so one in the wall and then a
Power strip plugged into other outlet socket and then a second one plugged in “first” (closer to outlet) in the strip will double your protection and noise reduction. If you have a power strip that isolates digital from Analogue (many do), the above is saying to best use one at wall, one in first spot for Analogue and a third for first spot of digital bank. From my experience these things do really work and help and the price of the IFI one is 1/3 the price of the Shunyata defender, so it’s the one to buy!! I also use the IFI DC purifiers at the device input (dc cable -> DC purifier-> device) for all of my DC equipment for all DC devices being driven by Linear power supplies and wall warts, and I believe it has also helped a lot ! (Especially for my DAC ( HDPlex 200W -> IFI DC Purifier -> DAC).

There might have been a slight price mix-up early on. €129 is the correct price indeed.

I am one of the lucky ones to own an iFi AC purifier. Plugged to the AC outlet that feeds our Samsung 55" LED 4K UHD TV. Everyone at home is impressed with the "new TV" we have at home. Before AC Purifier we thought we had a great TV set but now we have the BEST TV in Town! Contrast, Colors are AMAZING. The image is tridimensional, everything pops out from the screen. Its been only a week and we are watching more TV than ever. Image is so beautiful that we do not get enough of it. I am looking forward to buy more AC Purifiers to try them on my High end audio/video system but it is difficult to find them now. We decided not to move the AC purifier from TV ac outlet. Its been years that a product do not impress me like the AC Purifier. USD$99.00 is a bargain. Do someone knows where I can buy more? AMAZON has no stock which I believe is sourced directly from iFi.

Okay, I had a chance to actually unpack iFi AC Purifier and plug it in today. I am not sure if I am the best to speak about the effects, but my girl said that she feels like the music is clearer and has a bit better definition somehow.

I'll take a few photos during the day tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

I am not sure honestly, but since it costs around 100$, it is one of the least expensive power conditioners and it should be trated fairly. Power in Bucharest is not the cleanest, especially living in a large bulding where everybody plugs stuff in and out all the time, and since we're around 8 rooms connected to a single fuse / in line, so I might have a situation that is more prone to power issues.

On the other hand, I need more listneing befopre I can say anything about the sound myself, but my girl said that she likes it quite a bit.

Blackouts are an issue here as well, and since AC Purifier has a fair amount of protection built-in, I'd keep it in just to protect my speakers, lappy, monitor, and drawing tablet.

Hi Guys,

Good day to all.

I bought one AC iPurifier yesterday to try it out because I was pleased with the improvement the iFi iPurifier Spdif (bought 2 a year ago) bring to the sound quality.

I live in Hong Kong. There is no heavy industry or manufacturing industry. The power supply is stable. I have lived for 15 years and have never encountered electricity brownout or blackout.

I have separated the power supply for Digital equipment and Analog Equipment respectively as shown below:

1st Block
Wall wart ==> Power Conditioner ==> Digital Equipment (iPurifier Spdif, MiniDsp Dirac, iPurifier Spdif)

2nd Block
Wall wart ==> Balanced Power Supply ==> Analog Equipment (Oppo 105, ATC Scm40 active speakers)

I have tried to plug the APC iPurifier any places in the 1st Block, there is no audible improvement.

However I have plugged the APC iPurifier in the Wall wart of Block 2. I can perceive an epsilonic improvement: sound is airier, more breath. I can notice a difference in the high frequency spectrum. But there is no noticeable changes the noise floor, low and mid frequency spectrum.
Surely different people will experience different improvement depending on the set-up, gears and AC.

I have couples of inquiries:

1) Why there is no perceived improvement on the Block 1? is it because the AC in Hong Kong is cleaner? Or my Power Conditioner is efficient although it is cheap stuff?

2) In the Block 2, I have plugged the AC iPurifier in the Wall wart. I would like to try to plug it after the Balance Power Supply to see if there is better improvement in the sound. Is it safe to do so?

3) Does the AC iPurifier need break in time? If yes how long? I recall the iFi iPurifier Spdif needed 3 weeks to shine.

4) I have plugged the AC iPurifier in all the Wall warts of my apartment, the Polarity LED show red systematically. Hong Kong uses the same plug as UK. My system sounds fantastic to me. Far from being out of phase as the Polarity LED indicated. Should I ask an electrician to rewire the Neutral and the Hot? Will this make the sound improve much better? Or I should just ignore the Polarity LED?

Anyone can assist in providing me with clues and answers?

Thanks.

did you try to plug it the other way around? I don't know how pluigs look there, but EU plugs are fully reversible, and I also get red on polarity, then when I change the orientation, it goes green, so it can detect polarity well. IF yours are reversed and the plug is not reversible, it might be good to look into this.

As for your question about the improvement, it is hard to say. At this point I'm experimenting with power in Bucharest, but power here has a lot of variation and noise, we have blackouts once a month, and we have a huge amount of industry right in the city, so we might be a special case. All the differences I can hear are within the midrange for me, especially in the noise and distortions being lower, guitars having a cleaner sound. My girl is helping me with this a bit as she has a finer hearing and tells me that for her the differences are quite visible. We haven't focused on the high frequencies at all yet, so we have to study this

I plugged one of mine in 220V phase+phase and the polarity is also red. I assume it is still working nonetheless?
