That's what I'm thinking as well, given the lack of any other information besides a price.

I think I'd go for either a set of Grado SR325i's or Shure E4's.

I read it the same as discord.

I'm waiting for delivery on the K701 and I've been straddling the fence on a SA5000 for a while. I'd definitely pull the trigger on a ATH-W1000 if money was available. Adding the SA5k and W1k to the stable would pretty much cover the main house sounds, I think. I've tried a Grado 225 in the past and couldn't deal with the ear ache.

All these cans are over $300 but under $400 so I took a little liberty.

$300 phones I'd buy? If the budget can be upped a little, still remaining under $400...
- K701 (hopefully on its way from Headroom this week)
- ATH-W1000
- SA5000

Along with my Senns, those cans would round out the stable with good representation of each of the major manufacturers. I've tried a SR225 in the past and couldn't get over the ear ache so Grado is out, and I wasn't too impressed with DT880.

I would try to find a pair of used Sony MDR-CD3000s. While they're getting increasingly tough to find, they are really superb headphones that can be had for pretty close to your budget (and can run un-amped).
