Hi, I got 2 choice at the moment, since they both cost same, this make me hard to choose

:

1. Sennheiser HE60/HEV70
2. Audio Valve RKV MkII + HD600(stock cable) or DT880

They both combo are brand new, so which combo you will choose?

So you have no opportunity to audition them? Your own listening experience is the only criterion that really can tell you which to choose. I really couldn't decide if I were in your shoes. If you have to buy one of them blindly, more power to you! I'm sure you would like either one.

What do you like better: the ultra-transparent sound of electrostatics or the solid euphony of dynamic headphones? I guess I would prefer the DT 880 to the HD 600, especially with the slightly dark and bass-heavy RKV. Or wait for the HD 650. On the other hand I liked the HE60/HEV70 during a brief audition in a hi-fi fair.

Hope this helps.

No offense MERTON, but have you actually heard any of the units that are talked about here?

no.. heh.. but i've read in the headamp forum about how the gilmore amps go well with grados... and someone around here really seems to advocate the ms pro's as an alternative to the
hp-1's... you may want to wait for the gilmor reference. i just think that would be a really nice setup if you like energetic music and detail.

Sticking with the choices you've presented:

With all other peripherals being equal, the Sennheiser HE60/HEV70 would sound faster, and brighter than the RKV/HD600, which would have a darker, and rolled-off presentation. Very different sound. Which you prefer depends on you. I am not really sure how the DT880 would sound with the RKV, but I prefer the HD600 over it, so...

I do agree, however, that the RKV+AKG K1000 would sound better than both of these, IMO

All knowledgable designers around these parts, like Kevin Gilmore, advocate that the Sennheiser HEV70 amplifier is crap. I have never listened to a Senn electrostat, but I would really like to try the HE60 with a Stax tube amp.

I had Stax OmegaII with 717amp before, however, since i start to use speaker more, then I thought I don't need a high-end headphone system and try to get a basic one. At the moment, I lead to DT880 + RKV more, since I had Omega II before, therefore I want to try something different this time. Also, the reason that I would like to get DT880, since HD650 will be release soon, therefore I don't want to upgrade my HD600 to HD650 later.
However, the HE60/HEV70 is hard to get NOW!! This make me want to get them.

Any other comment?

Jpelg pretty much summed it up.
I only had brief experiances with the Rkv
but only with the K1000s and thought that was a good combo
I do own the he60/hev70 combo
and I know you just sold the omegaIIs
which I also own but with the 007t amp.
I don't know your reason for selling the omegas but to give you a point of referance.
THe he60s are a more forward headphone then the omegas. The omegas seem to be a more relaxed headphone
more laid back, but seperation of instrument placement and vocals are better on the omegas, only really noticeable when you compare them back to back which I have done when they where both hooked up to my stax 007t amp at the same time.
With the hev70 amp the he60s can sound a little bright and metallic sounding, system matching is critical.
The he60/hev70 sounds very unimpressive for the first 30 minutes
but after that they come into thier own.
I made up an adapter for the he60s
to use with the stax amp. You can read comments about the combo from those who heard them at the last NY meet.
Sorry about the rant . The rkv may be your cup of tea, and you may or may not like it, I thought it was great with the k1000s. The he60/hev70 is a differant animal altogether.
Unfortunately only you can decide which one you would like better.
The only way for you to know is to audition both. They where both at the last NY meet. Maybe other members who attended can give you their opinion.

I like them both , if you are looking for something differant then what you had, I would go with the rkv/k1000s.
With the rkv you can always use differant headphones later.
