Well, you're in luck. I've owned er-6i for a couple of years and also a current multi-Darthmeyer owner. Using er-6i does not exclude the use of bassier headphones - it's more how you use them and what your purposes may be. If you want 'phones for gaming the dt770/80 or dt770/32 cannot be beat! However, they would not be my choice for music (bear in mind my listening is jazz vocals, jazz, and classical). Music, for me means using Darthbeyers, dt990/600, or even dt880/600. You see, the unmodded dt770 emphasis on bass is too overblown, and the result is also a sense of recessed mids...........so the more satisfying, simplistic answer would be to start with a pair of dt990 see what they do for YOU and your personal musical choices. You may find you luv them and want to move up a notch, so would then go to dt990/600, or realize you're an unmitigated basshead and spring for Darthbeyers, or you're more of a string quartet guy and hence dt880. The stock dt990 are a great place to start, and at the same time give you an excellent since of where to go if you want a differing taste.
