If I drill holes in my V6 would it make them open headphones or is it more complicated than that? I'm thinking about drilling a few holes in mine. I have a extra dead pair I can use to change it back if it doesn't sound right.

Yes, it makes them open phones. (or "semi-open" if you prefer, but I personally consider all phones that are "semi-open" to be open)

The question is: Will it make them SOUND like open phones.

Well, it sounds like a funny idea, why not try it??

DON'T FORGET PICTURES!!!

take out the drivers first. i predict they will lose some of their treble and bass power if you drill holes in them.

I'd suggest the use of a butter-knife in order to provide more "air". Drilling (if needed) should go directly into the skull of the listener to enable exhaust of excess caustic fumes due to brain atrophy ...

Oh, and do take photos!

Round the edges on the holes though, no-one likes if your head starts hissing uncontrollably.

don't bother. by putting holes in the enclosure all you will be doing is uncoupling the air mass of the drivers. you will then get flabby, rattle prone, bass. just put BOTH sets up for sale and get something better. (someone may want an unbroken band, cup, wiring, pads, etc).

wallijonn kinda has the right idea. What I did was take apart one cup so that the baffle/driver is not touching the cup (Totally open). I can't notice any real difference between the other side. I'm open to suggestions if anyone have other ideas for mutilation.

I stuffed it with both cotton balls and soft foam from shipping. It seems to tighten the sound and lessens the bass considerably. Using the foam has a stronger effect. Cotton didn't change as much. IMO, it takes out the substance of the headphones.

the next step then would be to line the cup enclosures with automotive sound deading foam (about 1/16" to 1/8").

i think meier-audio.com has some 'sound deading' tweaks where he describes the automotive sound deading material. it may tame the lows enough for the mids and highs to come out better.

That was the funniest thing i've read on head-fi for a very long time. It made me burst out a real life "HAHAHA". Using the usual "LOL" to describe my reaction would be isufficient since everybody says lol without actually having laughed out loud.

In otherwords, it seems no one really knows. I don't anyone else here has tried it. I personally wouldn't even dare mess with them.

Everyone i'm sure is wondering what the effects are, but I highly doubt they would be possitive. Otherwise you think someone would make a headphone that has little rubber stoppers in them so you can convert them to open-air style at will. (Hmm maybe I should get this idea patented).

I would personally recomend just buying some open-air kind, so you have two headphones, but if you really want to be brave and do it. Go for it, best of luck to you as well.

And if you need a place to put your photos, I can give you a temp. subdomain on my website. http://Yoursite.DanieleNetwork.com
