I love the sound of my HD280's and I really like their isolation, but I would like to have a more portable isolating solution. I have the ER6i's and I really dislike their sound signature.

I listen to rock/pop/metal mostly, and anything but the super premium IEM's are in my price range. I will listen almost exclusively with my IPod/PA2V2 combo.

Any advice?

I would have suggested Ety's but you shot them down already.

What don't you like about the ER6i's?

wouldn't ex71s emulate the 280s pretty well

I'll freem myself from any negative or positive connotations that statement might contain lol

x2... EX71 is the closest thing I have (unfortunately) heard to the HD280. Both IMHO have piercing treble, but the EX71 has more bloated muddy bass.

I don't have the issue with piercing treble with the 280's that some of you seem to have, and anyway the EX71's are not IEM's.

Despite the responses so far, this really is a serious question. I'm sorry that the HD280 is not the FOTM, but I still like the way it sounds, and I would like for someone to chime in that has a serious suggestion and can explain why they recommend it.

Hmm...try the Super.fi 3 or the Super.fi 5 EB/Pro? I haven't heard an IEM that sounded remotely like my previously owned HD280s.

It's been a long while since I heard the 280's but I can't say I've heard an IEM that ever reminded me of them, the closest might be the Shure E4's. Reasonably good quality bass that many feel is a touch lacking which would be similar to the 280's, mids would be more forward than the 280's but worked well for rock in my experience. The highs have a nice sparkle without be aggressive, they wouldn't be quite as forward as the highs on the 280's though.

I've pulled the trigger on a B-stock pair of super.fi 5 pro's from headroom. From other reviews, it will probably have the balance of sound I am looking for.

Good to know, please post impressions when you get a good listen to them, I'm sure there might be others who are asking the same question as you are. Have fun!
