hi guys, i was wondering if you could help me decide on what iem to get. im deciding on the JBL Reference 220 or AKG K324P or Sennheiser CX300 or Sony EX082. i have never listened to any of these so im just gonna trust you guys on this one... i prefer something with good sound isolation but if the sound is good, ill get it. i live in the philippines so selection is limited and these are the ones that fit my budget. i normally listen to all kinds of rock and instrumental music but i also like listening to jazz and other stuff. i use an ipod with no amp. thanks guys. hope to hear from you soon.

I have the JBL 220 and find them horrible. Peaky highs, poor lows and just no fun to listen to. A nice case though that I use for other monitors.

CX300 just started coming in version II. These are much better than the originals to my ears and provide maybe 90% of the quality of the IE8s which makes them a much better value.

Make sure you are getting version II, though, since the originals are distinctly worse sounding, at least to me. There may well be old ones still out there on the shelves.

I can't compare the 300's to other brands, however. At the price of the CX300-II it is hard to imagine a better overall value, but you never know.

Is this true? If it is, the law of diminishing returns really hurts your wallet... I was considering an IE8, but at that price difference for a 10% improvement in SQ...

From the ones on your list, the only I did not listened to are the JBLs. Of all the other three, i prefer the EX82, they are the more balanced sounding, but the less isolating too. Then in my preference comes the AKG. They are similar to cx300, both are bass oriented, with recessed mids an a bit harsh trebles. But 324p are a little more balanced IMO than the senns. If you are in for a cheap iem I can suggest you to add to the list the Philips she9550. That's another bass oriented iem, I use them with a bit of EQ on a sony A816 and I really prefer them to the other ones: better smoothness and balance, clear and powerful sound, perfect for rock and metal (wich I listen to) and very good noise blocking.
Hope this helps

Cheers
K
