How do i know is my iem needs an amp?

Ex: Shure SE 420 / SoundMagic PL50

Is FiiO 5 a good adition for any of these?

In a way as it has been answered 100 times before. NO iem NEEDS an amp. Some benefit, some benefit a small tad. Fiio E5 is pretty much not a valuable difference. Unless the only thing you need is more bass. Hooking it up with a LOD as well improves a lot more

If you want big improvement then Mustang and ALO 18AWG SXC dock cable will improve greately over HP jack soundquality especialy soundstage, bass and details, resolutions.

well really depends what your using, if say a computer then an amp with a dac would give a quiet a bit of improvement in my opinion..
fiio is only useful if you have large-ish headphones and your player doesn't give enough power...
