What about a windows laptop?
It should be the same, but I can’t guarantee it since I don’t work on a Windows platform.
In addition, iDAC2 should be seen primarily as a source. It was designed to do d/a conversion in the first place and anything on top of that is a bonus. But yes, if one is in search of source only, iDAC2 over iDSD BL is a better way for desktop use.
Can I charge the BL via USB while using SPDIF input for the sound? I am using a Schiit Eitr (SPDIF output) and I want to make sure it's safe to use the BL's SPDIF and USB at the same time before trying.
Yes you can.
My main gripe is not being able to power or charge my phone or the iDSD when using the micro-USB output of my phone.
Yes it is absolutely safe. Are you feeding the USB power from a PC or a linear power supply?
Maybe they could come out with a refresh which allows for it to charge from the 2nd USB port while playing from the main USB port. That would be sweet for battery paranoid people like me
PC USB port.
I tried plugging the SPDIF and USB in at the same time, but I can only get audio via USB. Selecting the Eitr (SPDIF) in my Windows playback devices menu gets no audio. Unplugging the USB and I get audio from SPDIF again. I think having them both plugged in at the same time turns the SPDIF socket on the BL to output mode.
You are absolutely right. A PC usb port would have that result however you can safely charge from a linear power supply and input from the coax port at the same time.
I see, that makes sense. Any recommendations for a linear power supply for this purpose that won't break the bank?
You could just use a powered usb hub to do the job without looking at a stand alone linear power supply. Much cheaper and does the job for something like the BL.
EDIT: You could try out ifi audio's iPower
You can plug this into your pc port and then plug the idsd into it, only power and the pc wont see it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B...fl_title_61?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3HIHADV23VGU1
Has anyone successfully connected a Sony A35 or the likes to the BL via digital out from the wm-port?
Sorry for such a late, late post! It seemed that I never seemed to have posted my review properly during the great site migration last year! Here is my review. Please enjoy!
