Would be lovely if @iFi audio could clarify. Would be even lovelier if the clarification was that a firmware update will be made available to enable MQA decoding.

    I hope so too

Couldn't agree more. The iDSD BL is still fairly new and I'm hoping it's capable of decoding MQA via an update.

A bit of good news on the MQA front for the current production iDSD BL. It looks like a few other DAC manufacturers have released firmware upgrades for their products that have enabled MQA on their DACs. Audioquest Dragonfly Red and Black, and the Meridian Explorer 2 to name a few. These came out before the MQA standard was finalized, so this bodes well for the iDSD BL. Whether the iDSD BL can be upgraded to MQA is still a mystery though, but this info gives it a pretty good chance.

After doing some reading on computeraudiophile.... With MQA it appears that their are two flavors of MQA DACs.... 1) MQA "renderers", which require the player (Tidal, ect...) to do the first "unfolding", whereupon the renderer will do the final processing and 2) "decoders", which will play MQA files without any additional software required. To my understanding the DragonFly / Meridian are "renderers", not a "decoder" - which means that they need a piece of software to work properly for MQA playback. INAAE so I could be way off, but FWIW It's entirely possible that most current production DACs, that can be firmware upgraded, can be updated into MQA renders.

This info does give us current iDSD BL owners a bit of hope. If a decoder chip is required hopefully iFi will offer a upgrade solution.

I hate to burst bubbles, but it really looks like it's going to be a new device, not software.

This looks like a nano form factor iDSD SE BL to me. But I guess we will find out soon.

  8. Slim1970
You right it does look like a nano. It doesn't have the front fascia layout of the Micro iDSD BL judging by the back drop.

It is Labor Day weekend. Let iFi have it off. I'm sure they'll weigh in on this.

Folks, we'll have more to say in the MQA subject shortly. For now we can't spill 'em beans, but we constantly pay attention to what you write here. We'll chime in once we can, namely once we can be official with anything regarding iDSD BL and MQA. Stay strong!

It's nano iDSD BL on the picture behind our crew member indeed. We aim at the last days of October launch, yet the official announcement will be released once we're in 100% sure.

Thanks for chiming in on this discussion! I'm anxiously awaiting the announcement.

By the way, the Micro iDSD BL is one of the best head-fi products on the market. If not the best. Kudos for such a great product.
