These will mostly be for desktop and home use.  Since these will primarily be used for gaming, I want something immersive, with a visceral bass for explosions and good location awareness that will let me pinpoint where sounds are coming from.  Basically I want to feel like I am really in the game.  I will also use these for music, and my preferences include EDM and metal.  Closed back would be preferable, since I don't want my desktop mic to pick up the sound leakage, although if someone has a really good suggestion for an open-back pair, I would certainly consider it.

All of that in a closed back? Hmmm... that's pretty tough. The Meze 99 Classics provide a very immersive experience, but they don't have "pinpoint" accuracy on location awareness. They can give you a pretty good idea of where a sound is coming from, especially with a good virtual surround software. It does not have "visceral" bass, but it does have solid, more natural sounding bass.

Beyerdynamic is the best for gaming TBH. I've tried the DT770/DT880/DT990 and they're the greatest for surround gaming, can't say they're the best for music (treble too sharp for aggressive music, electronic is amazing). Sennheiser HD600/HD650 have a wider soundstage with good imaging but do better with everything not requiring deep bass.

My Zoom H4N doesn't pick up anything as long as the gain is low, speak at a moderate volume and the mic is close to my mouth. I swear by open headphones.

X2 on the Beyers, I have the 770 Pro 80 Ohm's, but I don't hear the sharpness up top that everyone mentions, I originally bought them for metal music. The bass will knock your socks off while maintaining control.

If you really want precise spatial and location information form your headphone, I would urge you to reconsider your closed preference. There simply is no comparison on spatial data between open and closed in most cases. With your interest in bass, the Fidelio X2 would be a very good choice. HD600 and 650 are also very good but they do not have the X2's soundstage, IMHO. HE400S is another good option, though bass is a bit lighter. A few thoughts.
