 This analogue recording done by Phil Woods drummer, Bill Goodwin is one of my favorites.

Keith Jarrett returns to his roots, both musically and physically, on this CD. His first significant jazz gig was at the Deer Head Inn in Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania, and 30 years later Jarrett agreed to perform at the venue again. With the assistance of bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Paul Motian, Jarrett plays six jazz standards (several of which were associated with Miles Davis) plus Jaki Byard's medium-tempo blues "Chandra." The inventive interpretations give listeners plenty of surprises and variety, making this a very enjoyable outing.( All Jazz)

This was a little surprising. Svetlanov conducting Miaskovsky 4 wasn't grabbing me through loudspeakers, but something made me play it through the HD800s. Wonderful sound...lively, warm - and there is a whole Svetlanov edition out there if a box of Miaskovsky is too off the wall for you...

I do see there is a specific reference to the HD800 but basically this thread is about well recorded music and not about the equipment. At least from my point of view.
There are various music threads about "audiophile recordings" or "best recording of all times" or "best live recordings". There are plenty of great recommendations.
For a great recording it doesn't really matter if you use a HD800 or not. The HD800 will reveal flaws in bad recordings w/o hesitation.

but of course you are right, icebear, it could also be in the music section.

The spacious sound stage is excellent for the HD800. Drums maybe a bit too far back sometimes.

The intention with this album was to experience the piano intimately. The micing is _extremely_ close (in fact I believe there were multiple mics placed inside the piano) and it benefits hugely from the intimacy of headphones, benefitting doubly from the clarity offered by the HD800.

If I may suggest one more Sound Liaison album;
''Thousand Shades of Blue'' is one of those albums where everything comes together,  music, sound and the sense of being there, present, right in front of the musicians.
My favorite track is Gasoa Blue, telling the legend of Ines and Pedro. But the whole album is a unique listening experience.\
