I've never owned an amp before and I was wondering if some of you with experience would suggest a good amp for classical. I'm willing to spend $200 and I own the HD580s. I've been looking at the Porta Cordas - how are they?

Thanks
Andrew

Porta cordas are more than $200. I heard Corda HA-1 and was quite impressed. I assume the porta corda is similar. You may also want to check out Creek OBH-11 and Musical fidelity Xcan v2

I find that the Rega Ear works very well with classical, and it enjoys excellent synergy with the HD-580. $225.

actually, according to this page: http://home.t-online.de/home/meier-audio/portacorda.htm

the porta corda ii is $185 assembled and shipped.

i have the original porta corda and it's pretty nice, but $200 is enough to buy a very decent meta42. i think you want to isolate whether or not you want portability in your amp. my meta42 sounds really good with my hd600's, but i feel the porta corda doesn't necessarily sound as good with them. it doesn't seem to have enough power for them (though mine is the older version). i think i'd look into a kurtw meta42, hopefully with wallwart ability.
