I'm looking for an amp to use with a portable (probably Cowon D2) at work. Obviously I want a great sounding amp, but I also want something with good battery life (or with AC adapter), and ideally about the size/shape of the Cowon D2. So far I've come across iBasso P2, Go-Vibe Petite and the Hornet or Tomahawk. The Hornet and Tomahawk seem pricey. Even after searching and reading the reviews I'm not sure where the P2 and Petite stand against the RSAs. I'm willing to spend up to $300 if I need to.

I really just need an amp, but if it has a built in DAC, hey that's a bonus. I've already got a iBasso D1. I'm looking for an amp that sounds a little better and is well... a little littler. :)

The iBasso D2 case is too long, but the battery life isn't.

I'll be using Senn HD25-1 or Denon 1000 mostly. Many thanks!

go with GVP. you don't need
an AC adaptor but only
mini usb to charge.. meaning if you have a computer, you can charge it anywhere.
and sounds really great too.

So you think the Petite is going to sound better than the Hornet or P2? How long is the battery life? I can find some pictures of the Petite, but not many details otherwise. Oh and about how long does it take to get one?

I just got a new Petite to replace my D2 which I returned because of a loud noise issue with the pot. I'm a pretty happy camper now. Just off the top of my head, although I didn't have the two amps together to compare side-by-side, the Petite sounds more tubey and natural and less "hyped". I also feel it has more controlled and tighter bass, and a better soundstaging ability. The pot also has a better feel to it and more even gain over its range compared to the D2.

Just one disappointment is that the text paint on the front face has been changed to an ugly yellow. But hey, with all my jacks in place, the text is mostly hidden from view, and I really don't care so much because I spend time listening to the music, not admiring its aesthetics. Build quality is solid, and overall the amp is quieter than the D2 I had.

This sounds great. I emailed Wilson and he sent me the price. I still need to get a little more instructions on how to order.

Another amp to consider would be the MiniBox-E+, it is a superb sounding unit which has the the op-amps on sockets so you can try others. So far I really like the sound of the AD797 as a replacement for the stock AD8610. Although both are fantastic IMO and at $179 well in your budget. Good luck.

Thanks squall!

It appears that you just have to contact David at Jaben by e-mail to order one to the US?

I'm also curious if anyone has experience w/ pairing the go-vibe petite with Beyerdynamic DT 880's.

I'm currently listening to FLAC files via a Winamp ASIO output and through a X-Fi Xtrememusic card. The cans actually sound far better unamped than I was expecting (based on what I had read on head-fi).

I assume the petite would be an obvious step forward (clearly for mobile use, but also presumably in producing tighter bass through the USB connection), but if anyone has experience to the contrary, I'd love to know before I move forward with the order. Thanks!

One big disadvantage with Petite is the lack of Gain switch.

i really like the Gain switch.

great for head banging while listening to Metal

Wow old thread ressurected from the dead huh? I am very happy with my Go-Vibe petite DAC when connected through my PC via USB but it sounds wimpy just running a mp3 player. The DAC is awesome!

The Go-Vibe Petite DOES NOT charge with USB... it always runs on battery and battery dies out and then u gotta change the battery.

unlike iBasso D2 Boa.
