You have the M8 and Dx300 and perfer the dx300, sound wise?
Denis this is a very subjective question. Having the R8, DX300, M15 and M8 out of those four, the M8 is the only one I have from those four.

Thank you, memory is a trick, I had the 220max and I perfer the M8 to it, so I was in search of someone who has both to find out if Ibasso is taking another road conserning the sound tuning of their daps, a more organic sound and less harsh

The Dx300 is not the typical Ibasso. It is the most different tuning from the Ibasso house sound that I know. The closest to it is the dx160, and even so, the dx160 is more neutral than Dx300. But that is just my own opinions.
Some may like it, and some may not, while I found M8 to be a great compliment to Dx220Max, I found the Dx300 a total different beast with it own unique tunings that is unlike any others I have had. The only thing I can tell is that you either like it a lot or you do not like it ...a lot.

DX300 is neither the typical iBasso neither typical anything in fact.

It has its own tuning that is unlike anything I have heard. Its such an analog and smooth sounding unit, with outstanding stage depth and overall stage size... I still have trouble wrapping my head around how special it sounds... yes it will be polarizing...

I have owned both the DX300 and the M8

I sold the DX300 and kept the M8 based solely on sound quality and construction quality of the M8.
But I also went for the M8 because of the stupid volume button on the DX300 even with the TPU case on it. The design of the button on the DX300 means it can turn off the DAP when in your pocket when you bend down.

Don’t get me wrong the DX300 is an awesome DAP but I think I explained in an earlier post that you can almost compare the DX300 and M8 like an Apple Watch against a Rolex watch with the DX300 being the Apple Watch and the M8 being the Rolex.

What makes the M8 a Rolex?

Have you listened to R8 or Sp2k? Wondering if you could compare to those, or how would you compare M8 sound against a burned-in DX300? Thanks

The M8 is nice, very well put together but not a Rolex and the DX300 is no less a player. I have taken off the back of the DX300 and the quality inside is excellent and well laid out. For vocals and a high quality analog sound, I prefer the dx300 over most anything I have heard.

I have own/owned all of the above and as far as top tier I own the M8 and SP2K

Sound is subjective...it wasn't bad sounding to me, it just was lesser sounding than the M8

Yes, subjective indeed. And to that, I do not agree with you. I base a lot of what I hear on natural sounds and live sounds of music and to me, the DX300, overall does a better job and I prefer the speed and UI.

I second to this.

Some information to share about playback rates and iBasso DX300 LED indicator displays using Mango (Android), UAPP and other.
Testing using free test bench sources from 2L, the table includes hot links to files at 2L in the 2L Link / Size column.
Perhaps Paul @ iBasso can add/clarify LED color functions and help UAPP get the DX300 fully supported.

As I said the DX300 is an awesome DAP and I’m not trying to take anything away from it as I have experienced both.

For me the quality of the build on the M8 is superior to that of the DX300.

That does not mean I think the build of the DX is bad in fact I think it is excellent (except the stupid volume button placement which can cause the DAP to power off when in your pocket).

Sound quality will always be subjective. Some will say the DX is better and some
will say the M8 is better. Whatever works for the individual is good.

But for me personally after owning both I would take the M8 over the DX. The M8 is more “warm” sounding to me and I prefer that sound especially as I mostly listen to EDM and rock music.

The DX sounded more “neutral”.

The analogy I use that the DX is more like an Apple Watch and the M8 is more like a Rolex is based on build quality and functionality.

Both watches will tell the time very well OR comparing the DAPS both produce sound very well.

The difference is the Apple Watch has more tech gadgetry in it compared to the Rolex ( DX screen and dual battery and Mango OS for example in the DAP analogy) BUT the Rolex looks and feels more “Swiss” which is how the M8 feels to me.

I have not owned or listened to the R8 or SP2

Hope that makes sense
