I think the "bugs" of this player, like the mid thickness is close to the fixable limits either by EQ or pairing. What cannot be fixed in comparison to MAX would be due to the technical limitations, like the punch with full sized headphones. It will never be as hard and fast as MAX. Also from my memory R8 was also a bit better than DX300 in turbo mode. Other than that it is not too far off in terms of capabilities.
It also depends on what you are pairing with. Is it IEMs or high impedance HPs?
‘...EQ is the Devils daughter and there will come a time in the future beyond audio subjectivists and objectivists when both are washed away with the endless entropy of the tides of time and replaced by some neo calvinistic audio overlords who shall reign over the invisible ley lines of thee Earth as Aural Inquisitors seeking out thee unfaithful within studios and homes.
Even wandering audiophile Bishops preaching heretical faiths of ‘trust your ears’ will not be safe, aged Audio Alchemists in their hidden underground lairs will be sought out and bought to the holy flames, their objectivist demonic measuring tools cast also into the fire along with their papyrus graphs.
only common minstrel bards with untuned string instruments and various wind machines will be left untouched.
All recordings will be made via straight to cassette on ancient boom boxes unfettered as the new flesh declares this legal in this year of our lord 3069.’
The digital was meant to withstand continuous streaming usages, sonic you don’t use anything related to it power, then the analog will drain faster than digital
Great answer, thank you. So the dx300 is probably fine for my HD800. Floor noise probably won’t bother me, I’ve got mild tinnitus so I never hear dead silence unfortunately.
I look forward to the R8 vs dx300 comparisons. I’m not adverse to spending more for the R8 if the value is there as I see it as a long term investment/player (hence lots of review reading since I can’t demo together), but as of now it looks like dx300 is viewed at parity with the R8 from what I’m reading.
About 80 hours on the DX300 now. Bass has become more rounded, but also detailed, if that makes sense. Bigger, fuller sound overall, but upper mids still somewhat “shouty” and still can’t match the cohesive euphonics of the R8 yet, to my ears.
