I think I might be starting to have buyers remorse getting MAX SS....

Finding it really hard to turn it off and it's robbing time for other things! Seriously impressed by this one.

I'll get home from work on Monday and be swapping out SanDisk extreme for a micron along with Clear MG to Stellia. Feeling like a kid at Christmas and only a week or two until Arctic Integra arrives to seal the deal.

Was tempted to pick up a Ti but tbh I'm enjoying the SS immensely for all sorts of rock through the years, even the bad recordings sound decent. 100% satisfied with SS.

Well done iBasso, knocked it out of the park!

I'm on the same or similar boat as Nostoi. My primary use case will be as an all in one solution for the ZMF VC. If it were for IEMs I wouldn't care as much.

If I keep the DX300 Max I'd sell my ZMF Pendant (can't keep both unfortunately), so I sure would like to know how their driving power stacks up relative to each other. I don't think the Max will reach that power of course due to form factor alone, but perhaps it gets closer than any other similar transportable source or stack would.

Not the end all be all, but it is useful in this case for example, plus I think it just helps to know exactly what it is you're buying at this price and how it performs on a hardware level, vs having it be some sort of mystery.
Just purchased a ZMF VC from a Head-Fier to use with my 3MAX Ti. Do you have any tips for this pairing since you have the 3Max? I ordered a 4.4mm Balanced cable from ZMF since it did not have it. What about earpads that work best? Also, I did sell the DX300.

Congrats!

No real tips per se but buying the 4.4mm cable would certainly be the best first step, as you'll need the power the balanced output provides.

Other than that it's literally all up to your preferences, but happy to share my setup:

DAC Vol 100

D3/D4 filter (I haven't been able to tell the difference between them to be honest)

Norne Draug 4.4mm cable
This one is copper - from what I've gathered about the Ti, it being slightly brighter than the SS, you'll likely want to use a copper cable vs silver with the VC to keep its more natural tuning (unless you do want to squeeze every ounce of detail and treble though I have never been wanting for that with VC)

Auteur Hybrid Pads
I like the openness of the Auteur pads and the bass impact they provide. Auteur leather pads ended up being slightly fatiguing for me in the long run, but literally only slightly, but the Hybrid pads gave it the bit of smoothness without loss of resolution or staging. This area might be the one you tinker with the most, given how impactful rolling pads for ZMFs is. Universe pads will make the tuning more dynamic while slightly narrowing the stage, for example. And pad rolling will likely have you listening with one set of pads for one set of source/amp and a different set of pads for another. I've sold all else and only use the Max SS now so have stuck with Auteur Hybrid for my preferences.

That's about it - I stream Tidal to discover tracks then use UAPP to listen, and then Mango where applicable.

If any other questions lmk!

I find the 3MAX bulkiness argument completely absurd especially from Head-Fi'ers who routinely demonstrate expert and in-depth historical knowledge of DAP releases from various manufacturers.

DX300MAX/Ti's predecessor, th

e DX220MAX - the photos and use of the term "MAX" should be obvious of what you're buying into - it's limited, it's thick, bulky, chunky, substantial etc, on extreme of what some consider portable, it's makes a resounding statement of the best from iBasso.

If you wanted slim and sleek, it's obvious the MAX ain't it.

Side note - the 3MAX effectively replaces my DX312 + C9 hot stack and Eletech interconnects with it's glorious bulkiness.
Glorious bulkiness is a great way to describe my 3Max Ti, Romi Audio portable amp with Eletech Socrates interconnect and Corpse Gravedigger cable to my HD820 cans.

So your Romi is still outperform the Ti headphones output?

You may be mistaken about power output (grins) , yeah , I put on hazmat suits and get ready.

Power delivery is very different than rated power output.

There is virtually no way to take a battery pack of a mere 3.7V and offer something like 15V boosted while squeezing the living hell out of it for current and voltage swings….it isn’t possible. The only thing possible is to market it under some “plausible manner”.

Anyways, I can tell you a very sure thing is that you can look at this picture of mine . I will confirm couple things

HD800S, a desktop amp with Western 300B, Titanium.

1/ The power delivery of Titanium is amazingly clean and capable. It isn’t easy to outperform this finesses coming from such a little DAP

2/ The titanium is a crazy device for a DAC that has True Line Out

Another thing to note is that the 3MaxTi has 4 batteries for amplification section. 2 in series and a pair of it. So the voltage total is actually 16.8V packs for the amplifications alone. Cayin C9 has similar designs, or following Ibasso on this, but 3Max is a lot more portable

It isn’t raised and boosted from a mere 3.7-4.4V packs. I can confirm this with all I have done to compare it up until now.

The only way for you to out performing the rawness and finesses of the 3MTi is to use a much more powerful amplifier. We are talking about amplifiers that are running over 50V swings
