Agreed! Translucent = good!
Guys/gals, in lieu of the above discussion about different processors, is this coming from people with wishful thinking to have the fastest processor or from those who have DX160 and R5 in their hands side-by-side and find DX160 to be lagging?
While R5 has a higher AnTuTu 3D benchmark score, when I have DX160 and R5 side-by-side running their native music apps (Mango app and HibyMusic app) each one is fast and very responsive. The same when I'm streaming Qobuz. I haven't tried playing games or downloading many apps. Could there be some split second difference between running some apps? I'm sure it will run faster under Snapdragon, but under my specific test conditions I don't really sense a noticeable difference.
I'm reviewer, I didn't buy either DX160 or R5. But I do completely understand where the consumers are coming from when comparing one DAP to the other. If you want a smaller footprint and faster processor (which doesn't necessary translate into faster performance), get R5. If you want a better display and sound quality, consider DX160.
Imo, Ibasso may be sticking with the rockchip because they are already very familiar with it and know how to optimise for it well.
Going to another SOC could potentially cause them to have more issues at least in the first few months of release and they don't want that.
It's the same story with Cowon Plenue DAPs, using the same processor and OS/GUI for many years, only focusing on hardware and sound. But either way, there are many choices out there. Write a list of your PROS and CONS for each DAP you are considering, and then decide which one is the right one for you.
I agree with Alex wholeheartedly ... if the real use performance is at par then i don't see the point of SD vs. RK, perhaps we should concentrate more on sound and battery life. There is no doubt that the DX160 has one of the most gorgeous screens on a DAP!!
K when is out in canada so I can buy it already and compare to my 1z!
Does ibasso have distributors in Canada?
No but u can buy online from ibasso site thats how I did it...
(and for comparison: https://audio123reviews.com/2019/09/12/hiby-r5/)
Certainly a gorgeous screen and sounds great with Meze Rai Penta
Does dx160 bypasses android down sampling in all apps? Specially the streaming ones....
If you like Sony and 1Z, their performances is unique in a way. I already know the answer from this comparison, but I don’t want to spoil your journey ;P
but I don’t see anyone to be disappointed by the dx160 as a whole package, even if you compare it to the titan of WM1Z. The price point and performance-price ratio will bring you an immediate answer. The dx160 is too good for it price.
I would give this post a lot of weight seeing how he praises the DX160 even though he has a Sony DMP-Z1.
Just like in any iBasso DAP: it depends on the app itself. If it downsamples, it can't be eliminated.
I've been testing out the DX160's Bluetooth capability with some True Wireless IEMs. It's been quite stable, even with Hi-Res files.
