Trying my high sensitivity IEMs Audiosense T800 on bot 3.5mm and 4.4mm, not hissing at all, it also smoothened the treble. :)

My DX160 has just below 100 hours of playtime so not yet fully burned in but I started listening to it and my first impression was "Wait what? It's sounds almost exactly the same as dx220" I will have to borrow again DX220 to do direct comparison but I was using the DX220 borrowed sample for like 2 months with amp1mk2, AMP8 and AMP9 for the review purposes so I got to know them very well. Comparing DX160 and DX220 from the memory though I can hear some differences but it's like 90-95% the same.

DX160 is:
- smaller, lighter and doesn't generate as much heat as DX220 (it's barely warm during playing flac 16/44)
- hiss free
- screen and speed of UI the same as in DX220 so in my book very good for a DAP although Fiio M11 and smartphones seems smoother
- Battery time with my regular use DX220 was 6-7 hours and DX160 is around 9-10 (no wifi, no bluetooth, screen from time to time to change the album, mixed balanced and single ended, flac 16/44)
- loads of power

To be honest you really, really need to want to have option to change the amp modules to choose DX220 over DX160.

Alex, if i may... I wanted to know, if one has the screen on, which is the most visually beautiful aspect of the DAP, for a reasonable time (like we do on phones) how that would affect the battery. I ask because i have a large library which is properly tagger with album art et all... it would be a shame to use the DX160 with minimal screen time, especially as its so gorgeous! Ok i think that paragraph is really long.. i hope i am able to get my question across. Thanks

Don't know if you will find this test useful, but I did a quick 2hr "extreme" test running dx160 with screen always on, 1080p, playing hi-res flac in a loop, single ended iems on low gain at normal listening volume level. After 2hrs under this specific condition the battery was down to 63%. Again, this is an extreme case where you probably have to extrapolate the real life use between this and 9.5hrs I was getting with a screen off. So, let's say 2hrs with a screen always on, and probably 6 more hours with a screen off (based on my previous test of about 10% per hour drop). So real life use with plenty of screen time could be around 8hrs.

Thank you very much for that Alex, really appreciate it. Balanced on high gain would be more my cuppa :D
however i thank thee for the pains taken! I see the Achilles' heel

I just edited my post above; I think under a more realistic use with plenty of screen time you can get close to 8hrs. Also, unless you are pushing hard to drive cans, I wouldn't expect balanced to draw significantly more power.

We always talk about "it's not the dac but its implementation", and both dx160 and dtr1 are the perfect examples of it.

This may be the right DAP for me.

1. Similar to LPGT, which is $2700 more

2. Not much different from DX220 for $600 more

3. I am not interested in swappable amps.

When the ibasso dx160 comes in Europe?
I'm still waiting to buy one.

You can buy it from Headphoniaks in Spain or amp3 UK.
