Being fair Fiio offer the option of buying in the x7 units without an amp so it's not a completely left field suggestion.

Someone here posted a site that allows you to choose amp. You will have to search thread. It may have been DX200 thread, I am perfectly happy with AMP 6 so I didn't pay attention to it, because I thought at time that would be selling open box?

A really, really long time. They have not offered this option yet with the DX200 so I highly doubt they will with the DX150 either. These units are packaged, sealed and prepared for fulfillment sitting in a warehouse somewhere. It's not as though when you order they assemble and package your specific unit and send it out.

If you're hoping to somehow avoid the cost of buying an amp you will not use, I suggest trying to find a deal on a used DX150 at some point. As others have said, Amp 6 is quite good as far as the "factory default" amp goes and unless it does not provide a feature that you need, you may be happy with it.

I would imagine the LDC-2C will sound perfectly fine out of the DX150, as would just about anything that isn't exceptionally hard to drive.

I'll find out for sure once mine arrives in 3 days.

Agree. The DX150 can easily drive both the Beyer Amiron and Aeon Open. Amp 5(a bit warmer more organic) for the Amiron and the Amp 6 for the Aeon Open. Though the difference between these two amps are not that big but noticeable.

I like the LCD2C pair up with X7 AM3 more than X5 3 because of the lovely treble extension. I just wanted to confirm that DX150's treble response is not rolled off as X5 3's.

Yeah I believe I've seen it mentioned that the X5 III is a bit "smooth" in the treble and the DX150 has Superior extension. If I'm not mistaken they said the treble was also superior than that of the X7 II.

The X7ii (AM3A) is the most neutral imo. Personally I like the X7ii (AM3A) the most followed by the DX200 (AMP1) and DX150 (AMP6) but they are all very close.

The X5iii is far behind the DX150 in terms of sq though.
