iBasso dx120?

Yes. It might be my final DAP. No interested in wifi, blutooth and streaming, only need playing offline.
I was very satisfied with dx90, quite disappointed by dx80 ( thumps and hiss with high sensitive iems), let's hope dx120 mixes dark backgroundbof dx90 with UI and power of dx80.
Hope sorting options will increase. Artist-year would be good, orherwise albums are in alphabetical order, not chronological

I didn't even bother with the dx80 lol but my dx90 continues to perform like a true champion

I'm sure ibasso knows there is fans of true DAP's that's why the dx120 was thought of. I just hope it improves upon the dx90 by a good enough margin for a purchase to make sense

This was posted in the DX200 thread, many weeks ago, but it's still relevant to this thread:

The DX120 will be a pure music player. No wifi or bluetooth. The amp section will be all new as will be the dac section. It will have the normal optical and coax input and line out function.

Oh, that is great news! For me at least, haha.

Are they going to look the same as the design and the styles that we voted? And will it be on par with the DX200 (in terms of sound)?

Thank you iBasso!

Because of a different dac chip it will sound different and the DX200 will have different amp sections available. On absolute sound quality the DX120 will be extremely good and will compete easily with DAPs costing much more. We would strive for nothing less.

Though looking at the photos, it doesn't have 2.5mm socket

Plus, by bye double dac, now they go single.

IMHO, dual DAC is just a marketing trick.
E.g. Shanling m3s has dual AK4490EN (AK4490SEQ's successor), while A&K KANN has a single AK4490SEQ.
Does this mean Shanling m3s will sound "better" than KANN?
latest

There are hundreds of components besides DAC (and even besides opamp and capacitors) that contribute to sound quality.

GOOD! IMO, 2.5mm is a disgrace to the industry. It lacks robustness and lacks reliability and should never have been implemented on DAPs, but since iRiver started a trend on their AK DAPs (and earned a big fat wedge of cash at the same time), every other wannabe DAP company followed their lead, without thinking for themselves that it is an inadequate solution. It's an awkward decision for a DAP designer to choose a balanced connector for a DAP, because they don't want it to be the same size as a 3.5mm single-ended output socket (because it may lead to short-circuits if a single-ended plug is inserted), but using a larger-than-3.5mm socket may occupy/demand more space/thickness on the PCB/in the chassis than a 2.5mm or 3.5mm socket would.

However, since so few DAPs are less than 20mm thick, I feel a skilled designer with a sincere desire to overcome this limitation should still be quite capable of using a socket larger than 3.5mm (like the socket Sony developed).

FWIW, IIRC, iBasso used to use HiRose balanced connectors on their portable amps. Might be too big for a relatively-compact DAP chassis, but at least it shows iBasso weren't keen on 2.5mm sockets at that point in time.

Seems they've given up and used 2.5mm sockets in the AMP3 DX200 module, however, which is a pity.

.... bye bye double dac, now they go single.

Agreed.
