Twister, Is there any specific Balanced Headphones (over ear), that you would recommend for use with the DX120?

I don't have too many full size cans, in comparison to IEMs I have reviewed, and did feature a few in my review pair up example. And whatever I use is not the latest and the greatest anyway. I do like Beyer's T5p 2nd gen which I use with balanced cable (Whiplash TWag v3), and I do like AT's MSR7 (but it's not balanced). I'm probably the wrong person to ask about full size. One thing for sure, you will have more than enough power to drive majority of these. Heck, maybe upcoming iBasso SR1 will be a good pair up :)

Any idea of the pricing and release date of the SR1. Do the Headphones have Balanced cable included in the package?

How well would the DX120 drive a 300 ohms headphone such as the Sennheiser HD 800 via BAL or SE?

In other words: should one buy a dedicated amp for the HD 800?

[reminder]:

DX120 Specifications:

2.5mm Balanced
Output Voltage:3.6Vrms
Frequency Response:10Hz-45kHz+/-1dB
THD+N: 0.00028%,-111dB (without load)
0.00032%,-110dB(32Ω@2.4Vrms)
DNR:117dB
S/N:117dB
Crosstalk:-116dB

3.5mm Single Ended
Output Voltage:1.8Vrms
Frequency Response:10Hz-45kHz+/-1dB
THD+N: 0.00042%,-107dB (without load)
0.00056%,-105dB(32Ω@1.2Vrms)
DNR:115dB
S/N:115dB
Crosstalk:-115dB

Specs-wise, balanced should be okay.

You dont need worry about the power of the DX120 - Most of my headphones are 300 and 600 ohms and the DX80 can run them all just fine...a DAP which has less power
I do use external amps but more for a different colour to the music than power requirments!

So the DX120 arrived today. I must say it is an impressive package, with all of the pack-ins, well done Paul. The device is well built, excellent quality. After a quick listen my initial impression of sound is very positive, with more than enough power to drive my hybrids.

What settings has everyone decided provides the best sound quality?

Dunno yet. Need to have a play. 'Slow roll off' and 'Original' I think. I'll try 'Sharp Roll Off' and 'Traditional' and 'Reference' this weekend to try and get as close to the Fostex hpp1 and Cypherlabs Solo as a base setting.
