I would consider the following order, in my opinion.

Theta
Audio Alchemy
Denon - doubt I would buy this
Pioneer - doubt I would buy this

I think the Theta will end up being expensive, so the Alchemy might be the best bet - BUT, isn't it in England, so wouldn't it be 240v? Not sure if that will work for you, it would not for me in Canada.

Just my $0.02...

OK, two DACs might be a wee bit overkill...

Can't wait to test your Zu cable, though!! Man, I hope the Spanish PO do their job just for once...

...now all I need is a new ipod, an SR-71, couple of cables, new set of Genelec speakers with subwoofer and a Stax Omega II headphone set with KGSS amp and I'm done. Perhaps a Stealth and PPX5 but I don't want to overdo things!!

My recommendation is the Channel Island VDA-1 DAC. I just recieved mine and am extreemly happy with it. I found it used for $275 delivered, but have on occasion seen it for a little less if you are quick and browse the for sale forums often. Definitly a very good choice.

Tchau!

I have also tried the california audio labs (CA Labs) DAC before with a tube amp (Mg-head OTL) and didn't like the sound... too tuby, blah like sound. Never used it with a SS amp though and think that with the right combination it cound be a good one at a great price.
