We need to get spam at a particular email address ( andrew@things2005.com ) for some research we are doing. We have set up a domain and mail server specifically for this purpose. Please DON'T subscribe this email address to newsletters. Newsletters aren't spam.

Does anyone know of a good way to start getting spam emails on purpose?

Mass-post your email address to USENET. Specifically, alt.binaries.erotica*

No it's not. I thought somebody would think that. Emails to that address go to a guy that I work with. He's doing research on spam.

Hmmm, subscribing to newsletters isn't spam. Spam has to be unsolicited. Which means the email address gets harvested in some way and ends up on lists that spammers use.

Well, they all looked really fishy. Some site full of ads and checkboxes for newsletters.

Try registering with online stores, but don't buy anything. And if you want the unsolicited part to be true, uncheck the "receive email or newsletters" parts in your profile. Pretty sure many online stores will sell the email address either way. Or they don't keep their databases secure.

Are you looking for spam specifically to that email address? Or just spam in general? If you're looking for anything and everything, I can set a procmail filter to send everything that spamassassin flags as spam to that email address. It would be quite a lot...

No, that isn't what we're after. I can get plenty of spam off our spam firewall.

We want to get normal garden variety spam but we're just trying to speed up the process, since this is a new email address. We're testing a variety of methods using different email addresses at the moment.

The spam research is for a TV show.
