So, I have been dying to get some new headphones. I have had my eyes on the Beyers. Thing is, they all look so good. So, I ask which ones I should start saving for! Here are the main bands I listen to:
Pink Floyd
Kaiser Chiefs
White stripes
The offspring
Pixies
Violent Femmes
The Hives
The Strokes
The Vines

Mostly that is what I listen to. Also, what amp should I get? I'm not looking to spend more than $250 on one right now. I also would like to build a Millit Max, so, if someone has a spare board, please give me a pm.

So, will it be the DT990, or the DT880, or the DT770???

I like my DT 770's for electronic music (which is what I mainly listen to) but I'd rather use something else when it comes to rock.

looks like you listen to a lot of rock... ever considered grados?

if you really want to stick to beyers though, i'd say go with the DT990

Yeah, I've thought about grados. In the near future I'm Planning on picking up some MS-1's. Just thought I'd plan my next purchase after them.

Say I get the DT990's, what amp?

Or should I be looking at something totally different(not grados)? I really want to explore the sound signatures of different headphones.

990 is the way to go. A good balance between 770 and 880. Good for pretty much everything (even classical, if you have a good silver interconnect cable for it)

Yup, I have 990's in the mail. They should be arriving tomorrow or in the next couple days. Can't wait! The reason why I need the 990's is because I listen to a lot of music that is heavy on reverb and ambience. The open design makes these things even better.

Same here at first, but a few hundred hours of burn in and a couple hours of brain burn in, they sound sweet. imo.

Well said, I was about to ask if he burnt in his. Mine's a little hollow sounding initially, but with hundreds of hours on mine, even my fussy friends think it sounds great. Now it's smooth and musical... bass sounding good.

The only thing I wish is that it can be lighter, as I cannot wear mine for too long before my neck muscle aches. Guess nothing's perfect.

to me, dt990 and dt880 sounds exactly the same..so choose the ones that is most pleasing to your eyes too..
i'll be getting a better amp (aria) soon and will keep you updated whether the dt880 is still the same as dt990..

same here as well...althought im a bit more tolerant to highs. after some long burn in...they sounded sweet.

then i changed the opamps in my Firestone Cute Battery II to the 2107s. this helped to tame the highs even more.

these are the perfect cans for me...comfortable, sounds good and they definitely have the fun factor. i cant think of a reason to change it.

i listen mostly to metal by the way..with the occasional classical and OSTs like requiem and doom.

and to OP... id recommend the DT990 '05 as well
