i say go with the creative zen because it has more features, and it has a removable battery and the ipod doesent but im not sure if the carbon has a removable battery. and the creative has the best sound quality, and to me it looks the best with its cool backlight

The Carbon IS hot. Much sleeker than the Minis, in my opinion. W00t for the Nomad sound quality, though.

cool red backlight, sleek lines, nice size, and it's drag and drop loading.

Carbon's looks are all man. My pink mini appeals to my girlyness. =P

I love everything about my iPod except the battery life; after years of using MiniDisc and becoming inured to 32-hour battery life on my Sharp MD-DS8, having to charge my iPod every night is a little different than once every two weeks with the DS8.

But the mini is just so much less of a pain in the arse, that I can deal with a seven hour battery life.

IMO, if we are on the issue of looks, I thought the carbon looked weak in all its plastic, I didn't like the white plastic on the micro, and the mini is aluminum, how can ya go wrong with that

I don't see how any DAP can be marketed to men or women, how they look right now on the market. Except for the pink ones, none of them really has something on it calling to one particular sex.

I'd go with the Carbon. Over twice the battery life of the competetiors(gotta count for something) and a gig more than the iPod mini and it still manages to be smaller than the mini! Rio DJ is enough to justify buying this for me alone(can play all the tracks on the player in order from most played to least played, can play tracks you haven't heard in a day/two days/a week/a month, can play tracks you used to listen to a lot but haven't listened to recently, can play all the tracks on the player in a random shuffled order, etc). There're bookmarks which mark specific places within a track so you can jump to that part of a track just by selecting that bookmark(think this is on the carbon, it's on the Karma) which I now can't live without. And I prefer the styling of it to its competetitors.

My two biased cents.

With smart playlist ability, you can listen to your most recently ripped CDs and top rated music and not really pay attention to the difference between 4GB and 5GB. I am not sure the Rio Music Manager does the job of dynamically updating playlists.
And, as for the mini, I have to agree with aeriyn, the silver or blue minis are really a great choice: classic clean, cool looks, decent sound quality and a great deal of accessories. It's funny, but I think you put a Rio Carbon in a case, but the minis just beg to be held...

hmm well ipod mini turns me of because u cant replace battery

rio carbon is starting to look nice but a feqw questions

1. does it have a removeable battery?

2. is it durable (can it be like dropped on the floor a few times without breaking)

If the Carbon's half as durable as my Karma, it'll work nicely. All of these players can sustain a good amount of shock, although I don't recommend dropping them.

I don't know if either of them have replaceable batteries, I don't think so. Rio started a program where you can send it back for a replacement battery I think, though..

How can one consider paying $30 more for a player and not pay attention to the fact that it has a gig less storage? Just 'cause it's got an apple logo on it doesn't mean that HD space shouldn't even be a deterrent.

I don't feel I have to carry all my music with me.
Using the mini's clickwheel selects to song rating is very easy, so I'm always able to carry my favorite songs from my CDs. I have another playlist that randomly takes songs I haven't heard for awhile. Between the "recent rips", "random", "most played", "favorite artists" and "top rated", I find I don't have to carry more than 700 songs at a time with me, because the playlists shuffle the songs in and out. So, 1GB doesn't matter to someone that has a 20GB music library.
If I wanted to carry all my music with me, I'd brush the dust off my 3G!

The Carbon does the same thing, for less money, more battery life, and an extra gig. My last on teh carbon.

I'm not familiar with the Micro enough to compare, so if someone will chime in here..
