Like seriously I have been searching all over all forums and nobody has been capable of answering just 1 question I have.

I have a Asus Xonar DG sound card, and a SMSL SD 793 II DAC.

I connect the DAC to the Sound card through optical cable.

I now have an issue I have to adjust the Equalizer for more bass and reduce highs however if I adjust the EQ on the asus xonar it sounds really bad through the optical transmission.

SO my question does EQ through Digital Signal affect your music in a worse way than EQ through analogue signal? and if so why?

Why does using the Equalizer sound so much better directly with the sound card as opposed to sending it digitally to the SMSL DAC?

So it was happening with 1 song but I tried a bunch of different songs and I don't notice any difference in distortion compared to direct to the sound card or digital through toslink

So is it safe to say there is no difference to adjusting a equalizer through Digital or Analogue cable? and if there is any difference its just my mind playing tricks on me?

What does science have to say?

It sounds like you're applying positive equalization without compensating by reducing the 'pre-amp' signal.

First try applying ONLY negative equalization. If the EQ doesn't have a 'pre-amp' volume control, then use negative EQ on the mids too so the bass appears boosted by comparison, but doesn't go into the positive.
This way will totally avoid the possibility of distortion through excess volume.

If this doesn't work, then hopefully someone else can help.

Ok I tried what you said and it seems to be working.

But do you have knowledge regarding Equalizer through Digital Cables? do you know if its worse to use EQ through digital signal rather than analogue signal?
