I left the office to go home to pick up the package as soon as the wife called. Having listened to them for about 3 hours all I can say is wow! I will try to put together a review after I have them burned in for 200 hours or so. So far, I am thrilled by the results I get out of them through my recently acquired SR-71. To make things even more fun, I am expecting a Zhaolu 2.0 with an upgraded amp module

I just can not take these off my head and it is time to leave the office. Maybe I should just sit here untill 10PM since it is doubtful that I'll get any listening time at home. The difference between the Senn 280 Pro and these is insane. I am starting to realize what is meant by separation and the sound stage. As insane as it sounds, I can actually tell how far certain instruments are away from me!

I'll post more later

Congrats on the AD2Ks. They seem to be very nice in terms of competing with the K701, HD650 and DT880s. Needless to say they are on my must have list. I am looking forward to your impressions as well.

My second to "congrats on the AD2K". I just got my ATH-W5000 today as well. So the ATH family keeps on increasing. The more the better...

I just had to chime in here. The ATH AD2000 is the best $550 I ever spent (on audio that is

). They are simply amazing phones. I think if they got a few more listeners here, they would be far more popular. Just awesome.

I don't doubt it at all. My only issue with it is that it is an open phone.

Interesting. I thought open was considered "superior" in every respect...

You are correct. I need the closed to not disturb others around me. There has been one close phone which has gotten superior press and it is the R-10. I am sure there may be others that come up to the open standard. My new W5000 does fairly well.

Thank you all very much! I made the decision to purchase these based on the information I learned from all of you here at headfi for which I am grateful. Slwiser, congrats on obtaining one of the finest closed headphones. I considered them as well but decided to start off with the open ATs.

Unfortunately I haven't had much time to listen to my AD2K last night. But the good news is the weekend is almost here and my Zhaolu D2 is out for delivery. No matter what happens, I'll be configuring, testing, comparing, resting and listening to various configs of my gear. I am so excited for this weekend!

In theory, but not necessarily in practice.

My modified closed Sennheiser HD280PRO is superior to a lot of open (though not all) open headphones in its price class. And the closed legendary SONY R10 is still considered one of the most beautiful sounding headphones of all time.

well, there are a lot of crappy open sounding headphones, so the fact that your 280s are better than a lot of open headphones is meaningless. The fact is, generally, in a somewhat reasonable price range, open phones offer better bang for the buck than do closed headphones
