I just finished up my first audio DIY application (I have played around with DIY EFI and other electronics "stuff" before, just never audio stuff before). The headphone output on my computer really couldn't drive my Senn HD590s worth a dang.
After reading around, I decided to give the PIMETA a try. Of course, I couldn't settle for "good enough" on the componets: "Blue Velvet" pot, hand matched Vishey/Dale 1% resistors, Panasonic FC caps in the power section (2200 uF at that), etc. My little $60 amp quickly went over $150...
And I just hooked it up to my Senns about 30 minutes ago and REALLY screwed up... It worked! Do you have any idea how much this is going to cost me in the long run???? I already have the PPA board sitting on my computer desk looking at me as I type....
And I also have to say that these phones have never sounded so good. I knew that my computer couldn't drive them loud enough (I always had the volume close to max while playing games), but I didn't realize just how much of the music was being sucked up and not making it out of my phones. This little amp sure does make a difference! Everything just sounds cleaner (and yes, louder...) and the bass has a "snap" to it that it never had before. I am definite one happy camper at this time.
So next, I'll talk my self into building a maxed PPA, and then I'll need a mini for portable use. Then I'll need to make one based on that little TI chip that just came out, then I'll want to build another one to keep at work, and then... It won't stop... And I have a really stupid grin on my face right now...
