For those of you in the US of A, the driving theory test is the theory part of the driving test, that you have to take before you can do the practical bit.

I just passed... woo... go me!!!

In other matters, my ears hurt from the crappy headphones they have attached to the computers to hear the instructions. Seriously uncomfortable. I asked if I could use my own, but they politely refused. D'oh!

But it's all better now, my ears are sitting comfortably in my 580's and getting serious senn-therapy.

Couple of months and a fair bit of practice later. The minimum age is 17, so at 21 I am a bit of a slow learner, but this has been the first opportunity, money- and time-wise, that I have been able to.

Congrats,

I'm probably doing my practical driving test next month. The headsets they used were very crappy here too

Congrats mate! I know how happy I was when I got my driver's license, after the practical examination.

You're just getting your drivers liscense? Are there different laws on the other side of the pond?

Hey my English ex-biology teacher said that you have to be able to go around a corner in reverse. And he said they used to require that you take the test in a car with a manual transmission. Pretty hardcore! Someday I want to take the driving test there to see how I do.

Yup, you have to go around a corner in reverse, I am learning in a real car (with a manual transmission, automatic is cheating(you can take the test in an automatic, but then you are ONLY qualified to drive an automatic))You have to also do reverse parking in a bay, parallel [spelling, sorry] parking, turning around in the road.

Do you not have to do that in the states?

Honestly, it really depends, on the state, specfic DMV location and even the individaul examiner. For my test, I had to park curbside, but not parrallel park. And no there wasn't any going around a corner in reserve business.

I got my permit and then license when I was 15. It didn't bode well when I first went in for the written test and failed the eye exam. Our quack eye doctor had always claimed I had 20/20 vision... and oh how wrong he was! Now that was a revelation. I didn't know that it was possible to see so clearly.

Went back, took the test, got the permit, then for the license I took a course and good ole' fashioned driving with dad. Now dad had me practice backing into a turn and such things that are good skills to have but on the test itself:

Made right out of dmv parking lot, made another right onto a frontage road. Stopped, reversed in a straight line, three point turn, and two lefts back to the dmv. Then there was the parallel parking and that was it.

Bad thing is that I have to do this now all over again when I go home in a week's time. Our licenses in SC used to expire every 3 years. That's no longer the case, but I haven't been home in 7. Doh! What's worse, I haven't parallel-parked since I was 15. But I figure I'm a safe driver, and I'll get through it.
