My Sony Dfj401 has finally kicked the bucket. And worse, my vintage Sony d-303 couldn't read cd's. So I want to get a new pcdp as quickly as possible.

Here are some interesting ones that I'm considering to buy:

Sony Dfj61
Sony dfj65
Panasonic SL- SW 895

Can you rate their sound quality and battery life? How do they rate compared to my Sony Dfj401? Do either of these models read CD-R's? And if you like you can list some more pcdp's for me to look at as well. And please, don't list any vintage pcdps, there a pain in the ass to look for, let alone buy. I might consider, well hoping at least, on getting another vintage pcdp later next year, but not now.

Help me out ASAP. Thanks.

x2

Sansa Clip's portability, sound quality and overall value cannot be beaten as of late 2008. FLAC and volume rocker are pluses. FLAC on Clip makes album gapless.

Got a Technics SL-XP340 then a D-EJ925 myself. I totally get that CDs are tangible and easy to pick and go. D-EJ925 has optical output, waiting on the iBasso D10.

Joey,

Those particular units are at least a few years old by now - and have not been produced since about 2001. And PCDPs have now fallen to the very bottom of the portable audio player market, with Panasonic now completely out of the portable audio player market altogether in North America (except for a few portable DVD players) and Sony now selling only bottom-of-the-line models with stripped-down features (no line out, very short battery life and the lack of playback features such as Program that were commonly found on older players).

Okay, I understand.

No wonder there's hardly any responses to my thread. I guess the age of the pcdp is all over. Mp3's are all the rage now is it? Well, that doesn't suprise me one bit. It's just that I have such a tight budget I couldn't afford to get one right now.

new pcdp does not sound good. you need to look for another vintage one.

Sony has newer models of Discman (now known as CD Walkman)-but all are from 2006.

Go for a 4gb Sansa Clip @ $50 in the US (or wait for the 8gb one) Great introduction to digital.

Drag and drop so no horrible syncing to do or libraries to maintain. Tiny. Cheap. Great sound quality. Can rip CD's to highest quality (as a CD diehard I presume compressed music is not your thing? It sounds alright to me though) (FLAC) and the Clip will play them.

What is your budget? How much music would you like to be able to carry? Maybe 1 or 2gb would be enough for you (very cheap). Carrying a little Clip will be an epiphany after years with a pcdp and cd's, so maybe go for a 1/2gb Clip, stretch the budget less and carry less music, but in a tiny tiny tiny package, and get an 8gb one in the future, and carry tons of music compared to your pcdp rig, in a tiny form factor.

Matt
