My Sennheiser MX500 earbuds sound good, but all too often I switch to my awkward for portable use Sony V6's. I often have to use bass boost ( :gasp:

) with the MX500's to get them to sound the way I like. I have some Koss KSC-50's, but their bass dissapears and they let way too much noise in when used in noisier environments. And I also have tried the Sennheiser PMX60, well, it'd be kind to say that even the Sony Streetstyles are more enjoyable (where's the bass!?). So I need good, punchy bass and at least a little isolation. And ear canal phones are out of the question since I don't care to stick things into my ear canal. I might be able to spend up to $70 for this set. About the only headphones on my consideration list are the Sennheiser PX200, but I'm not sure how good they actually are for a basshead, since Sennheiser doesn't seem to serve that market at all. Thanks for any suggestions.

i own the px200s.

they have a very dark sound. excellent, IMO for a basshead. they also are closed and hence provide some degree of isolation, which helps with bass, though not by much in any extremely noisy environment.

i do not think i am exaggerating when i say you can feel the bass with these headphones. for their size, the bass they put out is remarkable.

however you may find vocals, female ones espeically, slightly recessed.

Thanks for your replies. I might have to just get the PX200's after I sell my V6's. They are pretty cheap at Amazon, and I've seen them at Virgin Megastore and they look very portable. Is the PX100 worth considering also?

the px100 has a clearer more 'open' and airy sound. gone are the recessed vocals present on it's more expensive sibling.

the bass seems to go deeper than the px200, but lacks the 'thump' of the px200. it is definitely is less muddy though.

more suited to jazz , classical and any vocal heavy music. guitars are good on the px100 too.

HOWEVER, and this is a big however, it's open design means sound leaks out, and GETS IN, as though you were listening through a sieve. not practical for portability at all IMO.

I have the px 100's and I like them a lot but like adhoc said, they don't isolate... I find them best suited for work and watching movies when it's hot and a circumaural headphone is unbearable...
