My new gaming headphones are excessively sharp, I'm using these on Linux and I only have PulseAudio 15 band Equalizer to adjust. I tried reducing everything from 1KHz till 20KHz by -20dB but it was still sharp, it felt like needles were being pierced. Am I doing anything wrong?(I did select EQ enabled, and clicked apply settings button after every adjustment.) I thought reducing treble would decrease the sharpness. Is there any sharpness in lower frequencies. Is it because of the way the headphone was interacting with my ears?

I want a sound signature which doesn't have sharp and piercing highs.

What is the make and model of the motherboard?
What is the make and model of the headphones?
Have you tried a different program for playing audio files?
