I need comments on the BERYER DT 770 PRO-80

HI: I went to guitar center and looked at the BEYER DT pro 770-80 they cost 199.95. I told the sales man that I can get them for 150.00 on line at amazon . com so he said let me talk to my manager. He came back and said OK 150.00. So I bought them. This is right out of the box. The are very well built and have thick velor pads that go over my ears and are so very comfortable. They seem to have it all. Great highs and great mids but wow super bass that I never heard before in any headphone. The only problem is that my Sony A44 with 80 ohm adapter sound so darn good that I am wondering if the BEYER are worth the 150.00? I am burning the new cans in for 4 days and then make a decision on them. Does anyone here own the DT 770-80 and if so what do you think of them. Also will they get any better with a good burn in?

Could you tell me how they compare to the PortaPros? I'm especially interested in how you would describe the mids compared in releation to the PortaPro.

HI: The 770-80 have a grado like present mid range and the portapro have little midrange in my opinion.

HI: Compared to he senn 595 the 595 sound very polite and easy going. The 770-80 is very aggressive with full highs and grado like mids but the bass is just awesome. The bass doesn't get in the way of the mids and highs but is just tight and slamming. The 595 have a bigger sound stage but the 770 have a very good sound stage also. The 595 I would say are a nice relaxing headphone with great sound. The 770-80 is a aggressive forward energy that makes the music alive and there. I never heard such energy or bass in a headphone. This is with 2 hour burn in. I am listening to Pink Floyd echos and its like my main speakers are on. LOL.

Everyone knows my impressions of this series, but here's one more nugget - for all the fun you can get from this can, it actually isolates quite well as a closed can.

I have these and I like them as well, i need to burn them in more, but they smoothed out tremendously even after 12 hours.

i unfortunately don't find isolation to be great, and they leak a bit too. the sony mdr-v700's are better with isolation and leakage in this regard, but that's about it.

Stupid head-fi though, I love my Beyer DT770/80s, but I'm so tempted to sell them and get the Senn HD-25's that everyone's been talking about.

Isolation is the best out of all the cans I owned - of course the others were grado/alessandro and the semi-open CD3k lol.

BASS, that's my impression. But I felt the mids to still be a bit scooped out, so I had them recabled by Headphile. My first pair were 80 ohm, the headphile version was 600 ohm with the resistors pulled from it.

The 770 never had problems with highs or lows - and with the headphile recable the mids came out for a balanced sound. The bass tightened up too.

Amazingly the DT770 didn't feel too flabby or bloated in the bass dept - just overwhelmingly THERE. The soundstage was really great too.

Here's the blow by blow of my Darth Beyers - someone actually got a steal when I traded them to Tattou2 and he sold them for 180 - especially since i put more than that just in mods and buying new pads/cups for them!

Getting them new, stock, for $150 is a great price and I highly recommend them for electronic, club, rap, gaming.

And I agree with Larry - the size of the drivers doesn't have to do with the bass response. The CD3K has 50mm drivers but nowhere near the DT770's bass.

HI: How are you? I didn't sell the 595 for the 770-80. I sold the 595 because I just was tired of it. The 595 are great headphones but I just got tired with something about it. I now know what that is. I bought the beyer pro 770-80 because of a lot of research on them and now can hear why I got tired of the 595. Lack of energy and bass. I didn't plan on buying any new headphones but if there was something that was a lot different than all the many many other headphones that I have bought I thought why not try them out. The pro 770-80 has the most energy and bass than any other headphone that I have ever heard. The highs are full with a great mid range and great sound stage. The bass is just great and tight and gives the whole sound a very fullness that revels my home speakers. The cerwin vega 10" 3 way towers. I have nothing bad to say about the 595 and think they are great headphones. The beyer pro 770-80 are just way different animals. Ah headphones. LOL.

Don't make me miss my DT770s. I love energetic cans, and if you make me buy a THIRD DT770 in 3 months, my wallet is never going to speak to me again.
